sub,
I'm well aware that you are very busy, and I'm not asking for a timeline of when it may be fixed, but I would just like to know if you still believe that CC's should be working in 3.7.7?
Thanx!

Yes, they should. "Recheck closed captions" is scribbled on a bit of paper in front of me but I haven't had a chance to look into yet.

bump...

I've got a very close hearing impaired friend and not having subtitles available for her is simply not an option for me. I've been getting by using VLC for playback but it's getting old. (A "launch external player" option in the Playback choices would have helped here...and a "Resume" hot key would be nice if I'm dreaming...)

I'm going to have to downgrade to an older version and might as well go back a few to when live tv client channel changing worked but I've been trying to avoid it since it may be a permanent downgrade since it will be hard to track if this gets fixed in the future.

For the record, Closed Captions stopped working with 3.7.7 with the MainConcept MPEG2 decoder v8.8.0. That's a 2010 build but I think it's still a bit newer than what folks pull from WinTV. CC has been working through every other NextPVR version since I started using it several years back. Getting CC working was what allowed me to switch to it.

Try watching a recording, enable captions, then zip and post your npvr.log and I'll take a look

No offense intended but there's already 3 set of logs in this thread.

I normally have logging disabled (LOGLEVEL ERROR) since the logs fill with spurious MCE messages NextPVR claims to see from my MS Touch mouse. Makes it more of a pain as I have to edit config.xml and turn off MCE events. That and I'm not a fan of posting my viewing habits on the web so that means editing the files.

I'd gladly do that to get this resolved but it seems like you had all the info you needed and just haven't had the time to look at the issue.

If a fourth set of logs would really help, let me know.

Closed Captions are done differently when you use the MainConcept decoder. HandyMan is the only other person that mentioned the MainConcept decoder and they were working with that decoder for him, so your problem is slightly different to the logs others have posted.

I noticed that too and found it surprising but noticed he reported it on a client while I see it on the server. I guess I could try the WINTV version...

My apologies for wasting your time asking you to justify your request.

Please consider my evidently unique issue with MainConcept last in line before the folks who reported the No CC issue earlier on other decoders. I hate asking your time on an issue unique to me without exhausting all alternatives on my side first. (tried ffdshow too which is the only other working MPEG2 decoder on my system after WIN10 upgrade).

I'm traveling so can't post logs now but will work on that and trying the older WINTV Mainconcept decoder when I get home. She's staying at my home and I can talk her through trying a new version if you find a solution for the other folks with 3.7.7 CC issues.

I should have mentioned I'm US ATSC OTA but that's probably obvious from the CC and MPEG2 Smile

Your help, as always, is deeply appreciated.

Same problem here. I spent a lot of time getting subtitles to work with 3.66. and now after 3.77 update, all subtitles are gone again. ARGH!

I cleared the logs, started NPVR, watched a show I know has some, enabled subtitles a couple times, and then stopped playback, exited.

Logs attached.

For contrast, here's the same machine, same video, same everything, only NPVR 3.66

I rolled back and sure enough they work again. Again, I cleared logs, started NPVR, played video, enabled Subtitles, then stopped and exited.

Comparing the two files, I see with 3.77 there's some extra filters not present in 3.66

I don't know what this "Tardis" thing is, but maybe it's causing the issue.
