There is AFD stuff in the stream that in theory NextPVR could use to detect that the source stream is doing this, and adjust the aspect ratio / zoom accordingly to crop off unwanted black bars. In my experience though, they don't typically set this info (you often see it in DVDs, but not broadcast TV). Also, there is no easy/standard way for me to get this info from the video decoder, so it's unlikely AFD support would be implemented in the app any time soon (lot of effort, very little gain, particularly given just about every channel has 16:9 versions available these days)
