I'm still getting Freesat EPG listings reliably in V4. Is it not working in V6?

I know that Schedules Direct is very good, but there is an appeal for a completely over the air solution.

Other then cost the only appeal I can think of is losing duplicate history and I could resolve that with NextTool.  Schedules Direct does offer several advantages over OTA, better art, faster update speeds, good duration, easy to program, no tuner use, and importantly sub has access to the data stream.

I wish i had stayed at V4, as far as i can tell it is because i upgraded to V6 (admittedly with a clean install)

I do also prefer a solution where i'm not reliant on any third party services.
What if the internet connection dies, at least i would still have an EPG.

Schedules Direct has 2 weeks of data and it doesn't get purged on error, so that would be a long internet outage. Agreed for NextPVR on non-internet connect tuners that is a small concern

It pretty much is the cost, which we here in North America accepted a long time ago.

When sub has the time it can be fixed.

Chris

I'll give it a go

Hmm okay,
you appear to be in the same region as me, i'm guessing you pickup the rowridge terrestrial transmitter

So, forgive my ignorance.

Is xmltv the same as Schedules Direct??

And yes i have avoided Scheduled Direct because A: external provider, B: cost (and yes i know its relativity cheap.), C: US/Canada provider.

SD is integrated with NextPVR not batch files, you configure your account add postal code and pick your providers and then do the mapping, hopefully automap will work.

SD itself is non-profit and Gracenote gets data from around the world https://www.schedulesdirect.org/regions I suspect some on-line services in the UK will use the data. If nothing else the trial is free before you commit.

The preference to use the Freesat provided EPG certainly isn't about cost, it's about using the service that is provided over-the-air for that suite of channels.

My main setup is still running V4 and has three different over-the-air EPG sources from three providers.  The different standards normally mess up brand name TV sets' guides (such as getting the timezone wrong, or being unable to display descriptions).  In contrast, V4 handles them all perfectly.

I've V6 installed on another machine and I try the updates.  It is very impressive and there are many nice new features, but there are a few odds and ends I'd miss which I know from other posts are on sub's to-do-list.  I've just not had a reason to switch from V4 yet.  I ran some V3 version for about 5 years. I only upgraded to V4 when an issue with a special character started to upset scheduling recordings.  Big Grin

I don't really get art for browsing TV shows.  To me it seems very cluttered, and annoying to maintain (there's always something with the wrong picture).  The thing is I wouldn't want to browse through pictures even if it was perfectly reliable.  I'm glad that NextPVR's GUI caters for the list of recordings style, and navigates video files with a basic directory structure.  I find the text based interface far clearer and easier to use.

I'd be a fan of continued support for the Freesat EPG in V6.

I am not advocating dropping Freeview just offering a good a workaround until sub had time to look into it to resolve.

Because SD art is linked to the  show there aren't mismatched why is it important, because new  users demand it.

If SD was free we would not be discussing it,. The solution itself is better for a PC based solution
