I'm back. Was thinking about Martin's experience and his making the move from a win 7 system to new PC and non-windows OS. Right after reading that I finally made the move to a new PC and OS. Around the 2nd week of June I've been running a new "micro PC" $220 PC with Windows 11. After installing the OS and making some system adjustments best suited for an HTPC running 24/7 I gave it a burn in session for a week.
I setup my cable card 3-tuner Prme device and did my own update of the windows OS and various programs. Then I did a full initial install of NextPVR 4 into the new HTPC and set up the normal stuff (installed codecs etc.) Then added my plugins and lastly copied over the needed stuff from the old NPVR program right over the existing new NPVR HTPC program areas as per info found in this forum.
A little tweaking and adjustments were done, mostly to make use of the advantages gained from the newer, faster and more powerful hardware. And now several weeks later it's working better than the old system and seems to be (so far) actually more effecient resource wise and much better operating over all. Video is better, playback although fine with the old win 7 system is far better in every way. Of course it's more responsive and quicker in every way.
For one thing this new micro pc (which has a really tiny foot print) has dual 4k hdmi outputs, a bunch of latest version USB 3 ports, a 4-core Intel CPU running up to 3 ghz and 8 GB RAM, with one 256 GB internal M.2 drive and one internal 500 gb 2.5" SSD. Also a Gb wired NIC, AND blue tooth and built in wireless. All that is fit into a small 5 x 5 inch box 2 inches tall. It's powered by a 2 amp 12 volt wall wart.
Frankly I have to say it all works perfectly. ONLY glitch is that I forgot to plug it into my UPS that was running the old PC. And the 2nd night it was running we had a huge storm and lost our power. The next morning I was greeted with a shut down, off line HTPC. Fixed that right away. <grin> Now it's hooked up and protected by the UPS.
Version 4 just keeps working like a fine tuned watch. My hat is off to "Sub" for writing a program that continues to work well long after it's "shelf life" has expired. <grin> That is surely a testiment to his excellent coding.
So I'm now thinking about upgrading to NextPVR version 6 when ever that becomes available. But so far, the old tried and true vs 4 does everything I need and works well with windows 11. And gosh .. I hate to say this, but I kinda like Windows 11 better than 10. I dunno, I liked 10 more than 7 (once I got it working more like 7) And now I like "most" of the stuff 11 has. Something must be wrong with me I guess. <grin>
