It sounds like you're getting the DVB-S frequencies, but maybe not the DVB-S2 frequencies.

There were some devices in the past that required special proprietary api to be used for tuning DVB-T2 or DVB-S2. As far as I know, these went away along time ago, and manufacturers have drivers that handle the more standard Microsoft api for this type of tuning. I'm really not sure when it comes to Technotrend though.

Yes having a look at the handfull of HD channels I do get I see thay are all broadcast on DVB-S, not DVB-S2.

My card is not that type of card, I used to have one of those. It's a TechnoTrend TT-budget S2-3200 model I've had for over a decade and pickes up all DVB-S2 channels using DVBviewer, Mediaportpotal and DVBDream.

I have redone the antenna jack and even cleaned the card in alcohol. I also tested the sat cable in a satellie box did a rescan and it picked up all DVB-S2 channles.

I decided to install linux mint on my server, dual boot system with Win7.

My card is detected but when I try to select a transponder list to scan nothing shows up in the list. I can see the transponder ini files stored in I think an /OPT/... folder. The ini folder files have only root access permissions.

I used Firefox and Chromium to access the server, no satellite transponder list shows in both.

I'm going to change to a ligher version of linux as Mint is too slow, but I'd still like to be able to run a scan on Mint before I do.

Did you install using the deb installer and read the wiki instructions? Maybe you forgot --install-recommends

yes I would have just dropped this line of code into the terminal taken from the wiki
Code:
sudo apt install ./nextpvr-helper.deb --install-recommends

I doubt I would have missed the last bit as I just copy pasted the line

Then send your zipped logs and I can have a look. Maybe Mint is different from Debian, Raspberry Pi and Ubuntu which I have used.

So I guess Mint doesn't provide the scanning tables (I am not fond of this distro)

2023-08-25 23:51:26.849 [ERROR][65] Unexpected error in ScanOptions: System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path '/usr/share/dvb/dvb-s'.

Maybe install it manually /usr/share/dvb from https://community.linuxmint.com/software...can-tables

I've been using Mint for a few years now on my main desktop, very stable, and is easy to install things like that via it's Package Manager or Software Manager, which was the case here.

Anway, scan went well and guess what, it picked up the missing HD channels. Good to know my card works on linux and it's pretty clear now I don't have any card or antenna issues.

I don't suppose there is any way to copy scanned saved channels from Linux to windows. Probably not.

Anyway would really like to fix the HD issue on Wndows. I use mediaportal server on it but Nextpvr is much faster for quick turn on TV using Pot Player on client desktop.

Mint like most Linux repos is stable, just little things like this made it harder for me to use. Most development build instructions just work on Debian or Ubuntu.

No way to copy but the issue appears to be how NextPVR works with the BDA drivers anyway.

With all the good true clients I don't see why you need to use Pot Player though.
