Clearly to use 2 HDHR"s you need a splitter or two antenna. Remove one HDHR and the splitter and add another antenna and or just 2 tuners.

But it worked fine for years. I will remove it and test further. I fully expect it to still fail though. Makes no sense that NextPVR won't start a recording that then I can manually start just fine.

Most modern HDHR have an onboard web interface, which can use to monitor signal lock/strength etc. It might be worth looking at that while it's trying to record.

The failed recording channel at 3:30, which I then manually started at 3:50, shows a current signal strength of 69%, quality of 95%. The channel that fails most often currently shows a strength of 74%... Does NextPVR record the channel specifics like strength in the logs?

All the channels are scanned for the 4 tuners under the ATSC. The same tuners are then listed for HDHR, with no channels. Will post screenshot shortly.

I ran some tests.
My setup is as follows: Attic antenna to basement in to signal amplifier, which feeds 3 places (only one in use at any time). One place is the home theatre room. Cable comes in, and is split between tv and cabinet. In cabinet, it is split to 2 HD Homeruns. NBC is 75 strength and 78 quality normally. Direct to antenna, no booster, is 81 and 83. Direct to booster is 88 and 83. So, run from basement to home theater room removes ~13 strength and ~5 quality. Again, it has been setup this way for years. I don't know how much I would gain by taking the feed to the room and splitting it once to 3 places (tv and 2 HDHRs). I could try another booster that I have and feed the 2 HDRS from that booster and see what it does. I would love to prove first that the signal strength is the issue. I still don't understand why NextPVR shows the recording happening, but when you go to play it it's seconds long if anything.

He has legacy tuners, I thought the same thing earlier. Ricknextpvr the strength after a boost doesn't mean it is a good signal. Check the channel with as few splits as possible. With atsc 3 conversion some atsc 1 channels are using lower power. NextPVR shows recording when it starts and not based on data received after tuning Martin Martin

Change made. Antenna now goes from booster in basement to a single 3-way splitter, instead of a 2-way and another 2-way. Signal strength has improved 5 to 6 points via HD Homerun GUI.
Test set for 11:30AM, recording on 4 channels simultaneously. TV measurement lost 2db on all channels (makes sense, weaker signal because it's 3-way, not 2-way, but reception seems fine (all around 28db). Edit - actually, the number dropped by 2, which means it got better???

Test successful, at least 2 minutes in it was.
Thanks to Sub and Martin for their insights. Hopefully over the next few days we validate that the removal of the splitter was the answer, which was likely due to the broadcasters reducing signal strength. |
