Quote:The only progress I was able to make was by increading the "MVP Transcode pre-play delay" playback time. When this was put to the max (5000) I could get about 20 seconds of the video to play before it kicks me back to the video menu.

At this point I've got to assume the limitation is the speed of my machine, and it just cant keep up with the transcoding rate. I'v got a p4-2.4, 1GB RAM, dual 200GB SATA's. This hardware setup should do the trick I thought.
Yes, I suspect you're correct. You're getting no errors. The logs look correct. You're seeing video etc. Whilst your machine would be fine for normal recording / playback / watching tv type operations, I suspect it cant quite transcode the wmv file to MPEG2 in faster real time.

Quote:The puzzling part is that the Hauppage MediaMVP client plays .wmv flawlessly with minimal delay. I don't get it
They do a few things differently, and I suspect their process is a little more forgiving. They specify a P4 2.4GHz CPU minimum reqiurement for WMV/AVI playback, which your machine does meet.

I havnt personally had access many machine to categorically determine GB-PVR minimum spec for WMV/AVI play on the MVP, but I'd guess its just slightly higher than the hauppauge spec. Maybe a 2.8GHz?

Sorry Sad

If you want to do some more tests with larger pre-play delays, you can always edit the config.xml and directly change the following setting:

<MVPTranscodePrePlayDelay>5000</MVPTranscodePrePlayDelay>

You can set it to any number you want. Even a much bigger number.

Thanks for the efforts. At least it is working to some extent and the rebooting/crashing issue is resolved. GB-PVR is still the way to go! Cool

Now if there could just be an on th fly conversion of .asx to .pls ... Wink
