so there are three options for controlling a typical set top box?

1) USB-UIRT
2) IR Blaster
3) Serial cable from tivo or you can build it yourself.

The 3rd being the most reliable and fastest?

USB-UIRT is just an IR blaster. There is support for a few. I use a Actisys IR200L on my "production" machine. You can also use Girder for other options.

You could also use the .exe channel changer to run the app that controls the robotic arm that presses the buttons on the set top box....

Smile I have seen similar robots pushing buttons on cell phones when contracting at Motorola. Having a robot recording shows for you would be a nice coffee piece.

@sub: Thanks for the info.

Now I have a dilemma - do I buy a 150 with IR Blaster, or the cheaper Theatrix (which is said to have higher quality video) and add a USB-UIRT?

I'll continue thinking this over...

Thanks,
GGF
