I installed according to the directions("Just unzip into c:\progra~1\devnz"), and restarted GBPVR. However, there was no "XDVD" button displayed on my MVP, nor was there one when I started GBPVR on the pc that is running the service.

Unzipping the file to c:\progra~1\devnz adds the following folders and files to c:\progra~1\devnz

xdvd
| playmvpdvd.bat
| playmvpdvdfiles.bat
| playmvpdvdiso.bat
|
+---Plugins
| mvpdvd.dll
|
\---skin
+---Blue
| \---xdvd
| settings.xml
| skin.xml
| Thumbs.db
|
+---MtnLake
| \---xdvd
| settings.xml
| skin.xml
| Thumbs.db
|
\---Red Sky
\---xdvd
settings.xml
skin.xml
Thumbs.db

By moving the "mvpdvd.dll" from "C:\Program Files\devnz\xdvd\Plugins\" to "C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Plugins\", I got the "XDVD" button to appear, but when I selected it I got the error "Could not find file "C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\skin\Blue\xdvd\settings.xml".

I then moved the contents of the folder "C:\Program Files\devnz\xdvd\skin" to "C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\skin". The result of that was that selecting the "XDVD" button now gets me to a screen that looks like the screenshot at http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Plugin/XDvd.

From there, I tried to play a dvd that I had ripped to my hard drive, but nothing happened. I tried playing and iso, but nothing happened.

It seems to me that there is a problem with the directory structure of the xdvd.zip file you posted. Where are the batch files supposed to be installed?

I guess the directories should be unzipped to gbpvr not devnz. move the rest of the stuff from devnz (besides gbpvr) to the gbpvr directory. I need to write an installer.

The batch files should be in the root gbpvr directory.

Do you have vlc installed?

you should not have to switch to the other drives. You can setup the settings.xml in the skin directory with your drive letters and root directory for the file box

I moved the batch files into "C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr", then fired-up my MVP. When I selected the folder with DVD files, then selected the "PLAY" button on the XDVD screen, a cmd.exe window opened on my pc, with the following inside:

"Transcoding "c:\DVDTEMP\VOYAGER_S4D6\VIDEO_TS" to c:\dvd.mpg with VLC.exe"

Also, some type of counter started on the XDVD screen, reading "###/150", with the "###" part incrementing every second or so, but not (apparently) by the same amount with each "tick". After a while, the first title on the DVD started playing.

I hit the "skip" button on the remote, and it jumped ahead a few seconds each time I pressed it. However, on the 5th or 6th press, the MVP "rebooted", with the "contacting server" screen displaying for a while, then it went back to the base GBPVR menu screen.

The DVD menu never appeared, and every time I tried it, it only played the first title. Afterwards, the file "dvd.mpg" was left in "C:\". When I tried playing the file, it was a copy of the first title on the DVD.

tipstir, Change the mount dvd drive to be the drive that daemon tool mounts the iso as.

There is no way to play the menu only the specified title. We are working on fixing the format to make it more compatible. The xxx number you see is the file size in megs. out of the 150 default. You can switch it to seconds if you want.

Tried this plugin out and once I woked out what settings needed set in the xml file I have to say it seems to work perfectly, well done.

Other than just to see how it worked I wouldn't actually use this plugin myself as I have an actual dvd player sitting next to my TV, but it got me thinking I know a few people have wanted visualisations when playing when they are playing music, could this plugin be used as a first stepping stone to that goal ?

I.E. some sort of plugin which generates a stream of images which is passed to VLC to stream to the mvp

just a thought

There is some skinning hooks already in. Positions of the components etc... I can always add more.

VLC is not actually doing the streaming, it writes to the file. GBPVR plays the file. GBPVR refreshing only 2 times a second would make visualations choppy.

daemon tools is only needed if you are going to use iso's and stuff.

I have a dvd player next to my tv's as well. I try never to use them any more. Kids have a habit of taking the discs out or pushing pennies in there. Also I can play a backup of a kids movie from an iso without having to search for the disk. It is my next step in the dvd jukebox.

I am experimenting with getting the main title by autodetecting it. Smile

Is there any way to get it to play something other than the first title of the DVD? The only way I can get it to play is to select a VIDEO_TS folder, then press "PLAY", which only plays the first title. I've tried selecting individual VOB and IFO files, but nothing happens.

Note: I am trying to play DVD's that have been saved to my hard drive as files, not from ISO's. This is so I can store the DVD's on FAT32 drives. Most ISO's are too big to store on FAT32 drives.

tipstir the only problem with the settings
<BaseFileDirectory>I:\</BaseFileDirectory> should be a hard drive where iso's can be kept. c:\ does not explain the behavior though. when you hit play it runs the bat. mvp or not.

individual vobs dont play. if the file box has .. it will play off the dvd drive. the second column says title 1. highlight it and push up/down to play the title. when you find the main movie it will play the entire movie as a chain. next release i am going to try to add auto title detection
