I couldn't get MovieWizMaintenance running remotely from my HTPC, so I did another GBPVR install on my office PC. Not exactly what I wanted but works, though.
I have my laptop set up as a full GBPVR client, but I don't normally use it to watch TV or stuff - I have a TV/MVP for that. The client setup on the laptop is great for checking out/testing plugins and skins etc - sort of a development machine - can't afford to mess up the server now that my wife uses the system...

I also have VNC installed on all my machines, so I can control every thing from the kitchen. I've used that to run config (including MovieWizard library maintenance) on the GBPVR server. Might be a thinner option for you... I wouldn't want to lose my development facility though...

I would like to see a way to use this on a server/client setup and them share the same database. I have kind of got around it by mapping drives so they are the same on the server/client and copy the database between them. Each time I update the database I have to copy to the client and there is always problems when mapping drives that they show disconnected which causes nothing to show up in the client. Is there a way to use the UNC path instead of drive letter?

Apologies that this has already been discussed earlier in the thread but I find the controls within the plugin slightly confusing. The following would, I think, be much more intuitive:

1) Scroll between categories by pressing left or right on the remote (as the on screen arrows indicate)

2) Press down or OK/Enter to move to the first item within each category

3) After selecting an item on the list, the "watch" button is highlighted to save another key press to start playback

Separately, perhaps I've missed it but if a file isn't found in the IMDB lookup, is there any way to manually select the correct match if you know it's in the database?

By the way thanks for a fantastic plug-in!

Yes.

Don't map a drive, in the locate dialog box, go to Network Places, Computers near me (or Entire Network). Locate the computer, share and drill down to appropriate directory. The list should now reflect the UNC path to the file, and store that in the DB.

I agree, this got broken in a prior release where folks wanted the ability to control navigation thru the lists. I will fix in next release.

I'll take a look at this. I'm a bit hesitant in making too many changes here as folks have gotten used to the way it works now, but if it makes sense, I'll try to accomodate.

Yes. In the Manager (config), modify the title field, then do another lookup. There is also another button that is available which will display a list of alternative titles it found that may be your match.

While this works well for putting networked stuff into the database you still would have to keep a local copy of MovieWiz.db3.
I think dark_half's point was accessing the same database, e.g. remotely on the HTPC - can this be done ?

Ah, right. I'm at work, but.... If my memory is correct, I believe there is a config setting in MovieWiz section that points to the db. If you use a UNC for this, you should be able hit the db. Note, it will run a little slower since it will have to access the db across the network.

I can not find this setting. Can you can post more detail when you have time?

:o Oops. On my list of things to do (I also run it as a client). I'll try to add this setting in next release.

I've created a new version of MovieWiz, but I'm not going to post this one on the Wiki. I've made some significant changes in the IMDB lookup, the MovieWiz DB and a new Client mode feature.

I'll leave it up to those of you who want to beta-test this version to install and try it out. I've taken on a new job, and may not be as responsive as I have in the past due to commitments.

11/06/2007 : 1.0.10.0
  • Fixed navigation on categories control. You can now set which arrow keys nav the list and which ones exit list. See doc (in ReadMe.txt) for details.
  • Completely rewrote MovieInfo lookup routines.
  • Added Manage Categories feature. This allows you to control the order of files in each category
  • Added setting (settings tab) to control the order the files show up in the config program lists (ie filename or title).
  • Added Client mode. If running on client, you can in the config set the program to read the DB located on the server. Note, you MUST store ALL your movies (and local thumbnails) with UNC names.
