Glad I could help Smile
I spent almost the whole of last week reading about and correcting the Freecom problems, putting in plugins, utilities, skins, making a mess, having to reinstall, learning how to debug it, losing channels, finding the best epg source and software, cursing in frustration, and finally ending up with the first free software I felt I should donate to. It's amazing!!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
A big -repeated- thanks to everyone who contributes GB-PVR, and of course to GB Smile

Am I being really stupid? I've removed all the drivers as per the instructions on this thread, using the freecom tool, by hand (from the inf folder), and removed any ghost devices from the device manager... but still every time I reinstall the dvb-t stick it first installs the driver for the unknown usb device (so far so good) but then it tries to install a driver for a digital tv device. Doh! None of the BDA drivers fit the bill so I end up cancelling this. Can't get gbpvr to see the card, no matter what I put in the ini file (adding USB, etc) and graphedit doesn't see anything either. What am I doing wrong? I've stayed up too late twice in a row and still haven't got anywhere and am now really frustrated! Any help/advice much appreciated.

Use both the tool with the bda driver and the uninstall tool with the freecom driver to remove the device with the freecom stick connected. print out the instructions provided with the drivers and follow the uninstall bit to the letter.

Worked for me.

Thanks, AI.

I've used both uninstalls, and - following the instructions in the pdf - cleaned out the inf folder.

I then set a system restore point, deleted the root usb hub (as suggested elsewhere in this thread, as an emergency measure).

I went through the registry and deleted rogue "Freecom" tags (making sure to leave the default ones for Freecom USB drives).

[Warning: don't try this as home unless you know exactly what you are doing - you can seriously damage your operating system by making changes to the registry.]

Having done all that, I succeeded in getting a clean install of the hardware! Hurrah.

So far so good.

Windows detected the new hardware, and I installed the BDA drivers.

After successfully installing the BDA drivers, Windows told me it had found more new hardware, this time a Digital TV Receiver, and asked me for the location of the driver.

At this point, if I cancelled the install I was left with an unknown USB device which was not working propery according to the Device Manager, as the drivers were not installed. GBPVR wouldn't recognise it either.

On the other hand, when I went ahead and installed the Digital TV Receiver, none of the files in the BDA drivers folder works for this device, so I had to use the ones for in the old WDM drivers folder. This installed correctly - but I watched in horror as it overwrote the BDA drivers with the WDM ones!

[Excuse me for a minute while I vent: Arrrghhh!!! This is driving me crazy!!!]

What to do? Seems like I am up the creek without a paddle... Maybe it's just not possible/worth it to get this stick working with GBPVR?

My operating system is Win XP sp2, the device is a February 2006 Freecom USB stick, and its Device ID is USB\VID_14AA&PID_022A\5&327B050A&0&2.

The drivers I've tried are the ones from the Freecom website.

I sure hope someone can help me get this thing up and running - any and all help appreciated.

Happy holidays to one and all,

David

Hi Davidlandy

I extacted the Freecom 0000584 (bda) drivers into a separate folder and directed install towards it.

First installation stage installs bdaloader220 or 225 depending upon stick.
Second stage installs the rest.

Beware of second stage not finding correct drivers, try reinserting freecom stick directly in usb socket if on extension as I had to do to complete bda installation and it will accept drivers listed.

Good luck

On second stage, I had to point the wizard manually at the driver folder.

If you have an unknown usb device in device manager, delete it, remove the stick and reinsert it (after a few seconds pause).

Hope you enjoyed any xmas break

Thanks for the tips, Mingdiesel.

Is that the 00008584 (bda) drivers? (These are the current ones on the freecom site.)

Gotcha. Mine installs the 220A loader - but that shouldn't make any difference, should it?

This is where I'm getting stuck, too... I was using a USB extension cable so tried inserting the stick directly into USB port (USB 1.1 only I'm afraid - does this matter?) but Windows stubbornly refuses to recognise BDA_Capture_220A.inf as a valid driver for the device. Gah!

Thanks! I'll need it  Rolleyes

Me too.

OK - I've been doing this too.

Thanks! I'm on hols in Denmark to visit my wife's family (which explains the break in posts over xmas, and sporadic replies since...) I'm naughtily using my T-Mobile wireless card here which costs I think £8 per meg... God knows what the bill will be when I get back! I could probably have bought a new Hauppauge stick for the money I spent on trying to work this out!! Wink

Anyway, thanks to you and ming for the posts; I feel supported and know it will be worth it in the end.

Merry xmas to one and all.

I'm at my wits end...I've tried everything on this thread but I can't get my July06 stick to work on my Toshiba Satellite Pro....

It's not the hardware as it works perfectly on my desktop......I just can't see a way round it. I can get thu updated Freecom drivers to actually install but then the software says that the device is busy when I come to tune.

I can't get any other drivers to even register.

Any known problems with Toshiba's ?

Any help more than gratefully received.
