No, don't assume that at all.

I would not have any problem loading and using the Yahoo software. I already use thier IM program. They pay for the zap2it rights, and get paid by advertising so I will do my part by using their site and seeing some ads. It is kind of like Zap2it and the surveys. At that point, I think it would be legitimate to use the data for our program as well. One note though, I think they are limited on what cards their program supports and you need a supported card to get the EPG setup.

Wouldn't that be a big assumption and make this solution quite limiting ?

I know I won't have vista on a machine in my house until AT LEAST the first sp. As for MCE I'm a little surprised anyone would install that considering the built in DRM.

This would simply be an alternative for people who are running MCE05 and Vista since they already have the ability to legitimately get guide listings.

Where does it store the data?
Maybe I was just being dence that night, but I couldn't locate it.
also, do you have to start the yahoo interface to update or does it do it in the background?

From memory... on Vista it is in:
C:\ProgramData\Yahoo!\GO\TV (don't remember the subdirectory).

No. GB-PVR already supports importing XMLTv data. All solutions that are found will output XMLTv compliant data so technically GB-PVR already supports it.

It's easy to add cards. I had to add mine to get it to work. I'll do a quick writeup this evening.

When you did the packet capture for Yahoo Go for TV did you happen to notice what the USER-AGENT: the program was sending? I was able to download both listings for my area OTA and digital cable on the first try. I wonder how I would join the two lineups? Obviously Yahoo is not filtering yet on USER-AGENT: but they could in the future. I'm using the program Proxomitron - a free local HTTP web-filtering proxy with header logging - I've been using this program for 4 years and I highly recommend it. I can change the USER-AGENT: to be anything I want it to be with Proxomitron depending on the link. So I would suggest to find out what the USER-AGENT header that is being sent by Yahoo TV and use either Proxomitron to fake that USER-AGENT or make a program that does. Since no UUID or serial # is sent to Yahoo, the only identifiable information other than your ip address would be the USER-AGENT header sent and it would be an easy way for Yahoo to filter you out if they wanted to.

It does send a different USER-AGENT but I don't remember what it was offhand. But as I said: I don't plan on writing a downloader, just a converter.

They require an HDTV card or a hardware encoder card.
My Avermedia 150D was recognized just fine.
I'm pretty sure most people using GBPVR would have the appropriate card allready.

Loading the software is a small price to pay to get the listings. As sub mentioned, loading the software will probably increase the length of time the data will be available to us.

No, that wont be the case - none of these solutions come anywhere near being legally sanctioned by the owners of this data.

You'll have to point GB-PVR at you xmltv file. It'll be up to you to download/install/run whichever xmltv utility is capable of getting your data.

My guess would be 'yes' since the TV listings and Yahoo Go TV seem to support Canada.
