Hello,

If one uses ffdshow when playing back a television program containing the NTSC USA subtitle stream as the line of white static at the top of the screen, does ffdshow automatically detect that this should not be displayed?

I created my own custom aspect ratio with dimensions 0,-0.01,1,1 which cuts off just the top 1% of the TV signal. I use this aspect ratio for most live/recorded TV viewing to chop off the visible subtitle stream line. If anyone has any questions about how to enable/disable the included aspect ratios or create custom ratios, please respond or start a new thread and respond and I'd be glad to help. I've experimented with this quite a bit and have it pretty much figured out.

I too mapped the F7 key to an unused button on my remote in the absence of auto ratio detection. I can help anyone with a Hauppauge remote do this and would be glad to help.

Hey acidfiend2003, I'm with you! I installed ffdshow and all I did was check auto aspect ratio and my audio and video went totally out of sync in live tv. I quickly uninstalled it and everything is better now!

Just out of interest, does anyone know how the aspect ratios that F7 cycle's through should be specified? we only have a 28" 4:3 TV and sometimes, with widescreen TV programs (not movies) I'd like to be able to zoom in a little and see more of the picture. If anyone knows what to put in as a custom aspect ratio for zooming in a 16:9 transmission on a 4:3 TV I'd be interested to know.

Cheers

The only time I need to change the aspect ratio of a video file is when the person who encoded it did it in an oddball aspect or reduced the file size by cropping the top & bottom border.

Just DL DVD images instead of divx so you can rip them yourself. Big Grin

I have to manually adjust the aspect ratio for live TV, recorded TV, DVDs and downloaded videos...in fact, the aspect ratio key is the one I use most on my remote, its even worse when they go to commercials and the aspect ratio of *each* commercial is different <argh>

For LiveTV and recorded TV, I never change the ratio
For DVDs, downloads, etc... I got AVS files, and a PHP script to generate it with the correct ratio. It's in the "Has anyone tried AviSynth yet" thread, I think

I have had a hit and miss relationship with ffshow over the 4 difference PCs I have played with.

Sub has recently added some insite in this thread.http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=11342

Sure, but I don't use FFDshow, and I don't know where AviSynth fits in either. All I want is for GBPVR to do it natively.

I did try using the auto aspect ratio setting in the Nvidia decoder but it seemed to be giving odd results with the GBPVR aspect ratio defaults. I need to fiddle with it some more.

Avisynth makes all your stored video files have a 4:3 content A:R
Then they display fine on TV and the MVP

Well you can wait for that feature to eventually be built into GBPVR, or use one of the 2 solutions currently available mentionned above. Reven and dottore already said that above, I think we should stop beating a dead horse.
