Yeah, just the bare drivers would be great. Who needs wintv anyhow? Wink
Thanks again

Quick note on those older drivers. For me, it looks like they gave me the blow-out audio people have have reported at 150 groups.

So, since they were easy to install, I tried these new ones again. Now, the audio is fixed, and the timing problem I hit seems to be gone, too.

So, there are one or two lessons here:
1) No two installs are alike, even of the same drivers (reminds me of a win95 clean install)
2) If you do a non-uninstall install of the new drivers, it matters what drivers you use as a base.

For those out there still wondering if they should attempt it, and have XP, you can make a system restore point like I mentioned. But, even w/o that, it's a lot more painless if you write down any tweak settings (if you use the tweaker), and export your wintv channels first. It took me all of 10min to get back to normal doing a full uninstall/reinstall of the old drivers.

The Driver Installer is quite new so could have some problems. Also be aware that you shouldn't use old tweaks with the newer drivers because they will either not work or will cause other problems.

If you have problems with the automatic driver installer method it's best if you run hcwclear to remove everything and then install the new drivers from scratch (after rebooting).

tipstir Wrote:Funny thing I never had those blow-out audio problems which chipset are you using for A/V? If you can't bother to look it okay, I was just curious. Funny thing again my first PVR-150 had SAMSUNG and the two new ones have EFST or something like that next to the MPEG2 Hardware Encoder Chipset.

Your recommendations are good advice, but for some strange reason everyone might not be as lucky?

This was w/ the 2.0.18 drivers, which I actually didn't use, and had been using the version after of, as it turned out. I should have known somethign was up when the default for the audio in the tweaker was -9db and not the normal -6db. You could set it down to -10fb, and while the vol was ok, you could tell it was peaking constantly.

Anyone's experience is going to vary, when it comes to updates. Personally, if you're going to update (again, only if you have a bug that needs it), my advice is be good at it. Learn what to back up, the steps to install, and what to test after. It's a lot like beign a stunt driver. It's always goign to be an accident, but if you're good at it, it can be an accident done right Wink

I found my problems (or so I can tell) was building off a set that gave me a problem. Building off a better or more solid set seemed to help. But, you're right, to be prudent, you should go from scratch. It just happened I was going to redo it anyway, so it couldn't hurt to try,

The tweaks have been workign fine. I think it was a vol setting you couldn't update. Since it starts at lvls I am ok w/, it wasn't a big deal.

I updated to the latest and I am still hearing slight audio distortion mostly on voices. I had previously been running with an equalizer inline to reduce the input to the card. equalizer draws only 4W but it disturbed me to have to run it in order to get the volume correct. I may try a clean install and see if it improves a bit more but will run without the EQ and the new driver for a while before I try a clean install. Have to say though that distortion is much less with the new driver than previous ones I installed off the Mfr site, 32258 I think I had before.

I downloaded the drivers and did not uninstall the old ones and the only difference I've noticed is that initiating live tv seems to take a few seconds longer. Other than that, I've seen no difference.

Did a clean install and it did not make any difference. Distortion is still present but less than prior drivers. I kept the driver but placed the EQ back inline. I may have to build a passive volume control with potentiometers to save the 4w the EQ uses. Amazing to me that Hauppauge does not fix an obvious problem and give us a way to adjust with a slider. Inputs are a Directv box and a VCR.
