My USB-UIRT running with 0.97.13 is quite reliable. The machine automatically hibernates whenever it can and to be safe (from Windows or GBPVR?), I like reboot my machine once a week.

Just an idea, perhaps the transmiiter is too far from the receiving end. Have you tried repositioning it?

Good luck.

It's not a distance thing because it doesn't even 'light up' when you send the change channel command. It stays black. Again, once you restart the recording service, it works... I also don't put my machine into hibernation, just let it run continually.

Questions for you though:
What version of the USB-UIRT driver are you using?
What version of hardware do you have? With or without the 56KIR sensor?

1. I'm using the latest USBUIRT driver version 1.4.
2. Model USBUIRT0056 Serial 1062xx. w/ 56K sensor.

I have two different setups using the USBUIRT. So far so good. I know this cause I haven't gotten any complain calls from the parents. :-)

I mention hibernation/standby only becuase I read some USB devices have problem reseting itself after waking up.

Curious but has it always been this way or is this more of a recent problem? Its very unlikely that you have two bad USBUIRT. Are both setups very similiar as far was hardware and softwarei s concern?

That is exactly the same setup I have.

The problem has been going on pretty steady since I installed my USBUIRT (about 6 months ago). It seems to have gotten worse since I installed 98.08b.

The configs of the two machines are completely different, except the versions of GBPVR/USBUIRT driver.

Just wanting to know if anyone else has seen this lately.

I have never seen this on my setup. I don't know which hardware version I have, but the other two options I have the same as you guys... Not much of help, though... What's in your logs? Is there any indication that gbpvr tries to send the channel change command to the usb-uirt driver? I can't remember if there usually is...

Are you all using the USBUIRT for receiving also? If I had mine set up to receive, it would always quit working after a random amount of time requiring a restart of the GB Rec service. I don't know if it is picking up IR light from some other device/sun and just royally confusing GB, but I gave up and went back to using my MCE receiver.

Yeah, My UIRT stops working if I have had a scheduled recording occur. It seems to keep working with any other scheduled - so I dont think it's GBPVR.

Another thing which makes me think it's the device is that using the command line app for the UIRT has the same result (no lights, no signal sent)

This is all fixed by a reboot - I haven’t tried restarting the recording service to test if this fixes it - but I'll do that tonight.

I am also investigating using devcon to re-initialise the UIRT - not really sure what I am doing, but am basing this on the Wake.cmd which someone (cannot remember who) posted for waking their USB capture device. Devcon is downloadable from the MS website. (thought I'd restart the device in my postprocessing batch file and see if it helps)

If anyone else finds a way around this, please let me know.

I'm also using it for receiving. I don't have any problems like you describe. I do, however, occasionally get a fluke where each keypress on the remote is perceived by gbpvr (or the usb-uirt driver) as double keypresses, unless I press the remote *really, really* quick... Smile That is fixed by restarting gbpvr (not the recording service).

Jonnycam,

Would like to know if the recording service restart fixes it because then you could narrow it down to something that GBPVR is doing, as opposed to the Hardware...

Yeah, the restarting of the recording service works great to get the UIRT working again.

I am gojng ot do some more testing to see if the recordings still work when the UIRT command line app will not - to see if maybe the GBPVR is "holding on" to the UIRT fater changing the channel.

Will let you know.
