We all have our plausible story that it costs almost nothing... From the posts here we can determine our average WCF(Wife Cheating Factor) at bestWink

I had an old Dual MP2000 sitting around (I previously abandoned it because the thing is a like a space heater and makes any room it is in 5-10^f hotter than the rest of the house. (I will probably have to replace it by next summer))
so the actual costs incurred in my setup were:
4 Hauppauge PVR 150's (used) $33 ea 132
3 MediaMVP's $74 ea w/shipping (ebay)
USB-UIRT $50
misc components to build additional IR blaster zones $25
(24awg wire, IR-LED's 3.5mm Jacks and stereo to mono splitter)

Total $429

My system is made up of donated and purchased stuff.
The computer was donated as the psu had blown up and damaged the motherboard. The only way to switch it on is to remove the power cable and reinsert it. This is a good thing, little fingers from children press the non-functioning power button.

Wireless keyboard and mouse were donated.

Monitor was donated.

Fans and filters from the pile in the corner.

Now comes the purchased stuff

PVR-350 $150
DVD burner $50
IR blaster $55

Total $255 and well worth it.

For me the most expensive part was the new Silverstone Tech case LC11M, otherwise everything else was junk I had left over from 2 years of building machines for other people. I could added a PVR350 Hauppuage card so the wife tells me I've spent about £250 ($450) over all....

About 70$ for a PVR150 OEM. (yes, I am cheap)
The rest comes from a already operating and still being used web/mail/file server (about 120$ new excluding disks)
GBPVR can do recording through XRecord without input and without any noticable system load
Playback is through UPnP clients already available for playback of DiVX and MP3
I do not archive or selective keep, I only keep the last 50 recordings so there is always something to watch, wtihout commercials of course Smile

To be fair I put 0-500 because my current unit cost that much. I didn't include the cost of the computer itself since I had had it for like a year and a half before I even thought of using it for this. I'm in the middle of a build though and it will be considerably more then that. The first one got me hooked now I can't stop. I'm in the middle of building an HTPC and I've already seen other cases that I thought were cool and caught myself putting together in my head what I could do differently with them.

Had to do a re-build from my original computer (mai 2006):

CPU: from single core (skt 754) to dual core (skt939)
HD: added one drive more SATA HD for storage
Video: upgraded from X850XT to X1950XT (AVIVO=better decoding for video)
New MB: skt750>skt 939: had problem with booting and resume from S3 mode on the old MB. This is also passive cooled chipset=more silent with two large fan to keep it cool and an aftermarket HSF (AC Freezer64 pro).

Bought a good sound system: Logitech Z5400 which make my TV viewing on analogue TV an enjoyment as I can now use Dolby Digital Live to get 5.1 surround sound even on stereo source from Powercolor (ATI) Theater 550 Pro tuner. Big Grin

I hate to waste money, but I feel that this was a well worth upgrade as it was really annoying to press two or three time button to get it to boot and from s3 (standby) it did happen very often that it just froze. Now I feel it is stable enough so I can record even when the computer is in standby mode.

This is not only a PVR as this is also my main and only computer, so the total cost must be seen from that point of view. Total cost are somewhere in between $ 1500 to 2000 as this reflect a complete re-built on core components during two years time (that time I started to save up for this computer and re-build of it).
