Hello, does GBPVR support channel changing (fios stb) through PVR150's IR Blaster? I do nto have a USBIRT. I'm thinking of getting fios tv. However I do not want to lose GBPVR in the process.

Thanks!

the support for STBs is through hauppauge, so if you can get it to work with their ir config tool, it works in GB-PVR. find the model number of the STB and see if its supported

Was able to get most comcast channels into GBPVR, using hauppauge 500 dual tuner. I've switched to verizon fios tv and now finding that I can access only a handful of channels with the analog tuners.

Reading verizon's site, they offer cable cards:
http://netservices.verizon.net/portal/li...ecard_main

I want to try to avoid getting another Set Top Box (STB) and buying/configuring USBIRT. Anyone know of/using a PCI tuner card that accepts a cablecard? Does it work well?

Bump...

Getting Fios tomorrow (Feb 16, 2008).

Seems like the wife is losing her GB-PVR. This won't be good Sad

Currently I have two pvr-500's in the computer. Any recommendation on what I can replace them with so I have something that works? I do have the Microsoft mce remote and that came with 2 IR-blasters that are sitting in a drawer somewhere. Will talk with the installer about it and see what we can do.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Are you going to get HD service? Do you have HD sets? If yes to both of those you won't want to degrade the service to s-video quality. Every single person that has ever had HD service on an HD set will not watch SD at all. period. If you don't have HD sets you should be able to use HIP http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tips/...rdware.HIP

I've just had Fios installed and I'm also trying to figure out how to get my IR blaster working. Is there a way to do it without using HIP on a Hauppauge 1600? I've not been able to find anything in the Wiki or on the support forum for using the IR blaster on the default Hauppauge remote.

Indeed the transport is different over fibre, but it's still IPTV.

I work for a phone company installing IPTV allday long. Bandwidth is the major consideration when deciding on how many STB and SD or HD boxes. Having glass, you can have a heck of a lot more HD content and more boxes in the house. But it's still IP TV

Fios isn't IPTV. It's satellite based sent over fiber to the residence. Uverse is IPTV.

If TV is sent over internet (or intranet) using copper or glass, from wherever it originates (this case satelite), by defintion is IPTV. Television video is digitized, and packets are transmitted with internet protocol.

If you are referring to IPTV as a brand name like tissue is called Kleenex, then perhaps you are correct.

Digital Cable STBs are assigned an IP address in the same subnet as a cable modem on the same system, so by definition digital cable is technically IPTV but it is not considered as such. FIOS is considered cable and not IPTV. Technically, both are IPTV.
