my tv is 1366x720 but I reckon 1280x720 will suit most users on widescreen tvs.

i added a poll to this thread. please vote!

you know:
- 1366x768 is tv-compliant, but not really 1:1 with 16:9 (?!)
- 1280x720 is a computer-format, can be scaled to any widescreen-resolution, but HAS to be scaled, when you use a tv
- 1920x1080 the is super-future-format for hdtv, but your system will need more horse-power than usual

Those screenshots look great dottore! I'm sure there will be lots of happy widescreen users interested this skin.

One thing to remember is that most screens and plugins cache their own screens, so depending on the screen resolution, this can mean a huge amount memory used by GB-PVR. It'll also take longer for the GDI+ libraries to process these much bigger screens. 1280x720 or 1366x768 should be ok, but I'd stay away from 1920x1080 - that would be an obscene amount of memory used by GB-PVR. These other resolutions are still quite detailed and would reasonably good scaled up to 1920x1080.

i HOPE there will be some users interested in the skin ;-) as far as i know, i am the only one using olbia Big Grin

it seems like i will be using 1280x720...it's not that much more than 800x600 and 800x600 is known to work (still olbia). there is another problem though: there are still hardcoded plugins, set to 720x480. those plugins won't work with this skin...

@dottore

It would be great if you would make your skin "BaseSkin" compatible. I love this one, and won't ever change back to another skin ^^

I would be very happy if i would see some day YOUR skin with BaseSkin... ;-)

i don't think, it should be a problem, integrating the skin into baseskin. i have tried the thememanager with gbpvr by the way and it somehow doesn't work....i changed the theme to the default blue, but it didn't change anything.

maybe it is, because i am using vista beta 2...

You could team up with Mixman and make a "BaseSkinHD", then this could be a "ThemePackHD".

I know he probably would like a HD version of BaseSkin, just he does not have the desire to skin all the plugins that he does not use. (At least he stated this at one time).

Just a thought.

Regarding BaseSkin.
BaseSkin is not a skin in the traditional skin way of thinking of a skin. Neither is BlueMCE2. They are not graphical designs. BaseSKin is a XML design.
The ThemePacks are the graphical design.
It is possible to make many different XML designs that could be compatible with the ThemePacks.
eg.....Hebrew or Arabic would need to have a totally different XML design.

Changing theme is done by running the batch file CopyTheme.bat in each Theme directory. That is what the ThemeManager does.

I will not make a 1366x768 or 1280x720 design, since I don't have a wide screen monitor. But I will make a 1024x768 XML BaseSkin design.....some day.

I don't know how compatible my future BaseSkinHD Themepacks would be with a 1280x720 XML design. There would be some difference in the font size I guess.
Have a look at a ThemePack....and you will see that a lot of font values are moved into the baseskin.xml file.....so I can adjust colors and fonts if I want to....with a ThemePack

If Dottore want to use my current BaseSkin as a basis for his new skin, he is most welcome to do that. I will not change the name of images in my next XML design. So any new XML designs will be compatible with the ThemePacks.
Fatman_Do's Chaneleon skin is a ThemePack compatible XML design.
With the new %skinroot% variable program, the new theme will work with any compatible XML design. New Themepack will unpack themeself into the Chamelion skin if the user preferres that XML design.
Best Regards

I guess I should have suggested BaseSkin-WS Sad

Sorry Mixman for assuming you had a 16:9 display. That was a misunderstanding on my part. I forget people use 4:3 monitors for HD displays.
