Yes, thats normal. They dont have 16:9 versions of everything, so often they play 4:3 adverts or shows. This is more common on TV6 since it's playing mostly old stuff, bought or made long before they consider doing a widescreen satellite service. For example, this morning they were playing Fraggle Rock which has got to be at least 20 years old. This old stuff was all made for 4:3. The only way they can show it on your screen is by either adding black bars to the left/right of the picture, cutting the top/bottom off the the picture. Make sense?

Yeah it does make sense but I am not sure that is all there is to the problem.
The issue happens with new stuff too. Like the ad for kidzone is in full screen and some times when kidzone is on it is in fullscreen and other times it is in 4:3. I am referring to the bit with the host doing stupid raps and things and not to the actual shows on there.

So if that is all new stuff and it is still happening for those parts of the broadcast then that makes me think the problem may be something other than just old stuff being broadcast?

if you dont have the decoder set ot the right setting the auto thing doesnt work correctly
has to be set to raw aspect in nvidia
and also set your video decoder to default (but only if you have nvidia installed not with any other decoder)
also use the nvidia audio decoder
best combo for lip sync etc (only my opinion Smile )
once you have all setting as you want them (check sound is coming from where you want it)
if you double clcik on the icon in the task bar you can adjust the nvidia decoder properties on the fly (but you can on ly do this in vmr custom)
last of all set to FSE for best results on XP
if you dont see any improvement then tell me im wrong and go back to how you had it Smile

Keep in mind you have to select a decoder other than "system default" if you want the auto aspect ratio control to work while playing back recordings. If you leave it on "system default" you'll have to manually press F7 to switch aspect ratios every time you play a recording with a different aspect ratio.

I dont have the nvidia decoder myself, but I'm not aware of a specific reason why you'd have to leave it set to 'system default'.

Hi again

When I use Nvidia it is kind of jittery and sometimes when I boot it up it comes to a black screen. When I use system default I get I get a much better quality picture.
Are there any other mpeg2 decoders I could use or are there some settings I could tweak to improve the performance of the nvidia decoder?

The computer should be fast enough to handle a smooth image I believe.

I am struggling to see if it shows in the toolbar now. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it again to see if there were some problems with the installation and now I not only have the black screen mentioned above but I can no longer select run in windowed mode in the gbpvr config file.

I even tried to edit the config.xml file directly but it states true in the run in window mode but still starts full screen.

Struggling, and losing patience.
Perhaps I should start again from scratch.

what renerder have you selected ie vmr custom or full screen exclusive(this will not run in window mode and do not use if you dont have a remote sorry forgot to tell you that)

editing the config.xml file isnt always the best thing to do
make sure you back up before doing it next time so when you screw it up you can just change back

I managed to get a better image by unchecking the hardware accleration box so I am getting closer. I cant get it to do the auto aspect thing though.
In Nvidia it has the 3 options overlay, vmr7, vmr9.
I have set it to vmr9. In gbpvr config.exe I am using pvrx2 and I have set that to vmr exclusive.
