If MSDE Manager is giving you problems, then here are a couple of other options.

ValeSoft MSDE Manager (free trial, does expire):
http://www.valesoftware.com/products-msde-manager.php

SQL Tools Explorer (free trial, does expire after 30 days):
http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/SQL-Too....27.html

Either of those should get you going. If you followed the SAPSWD setup then your inital password is going to be hello for the sa signon.

My eventual plan is to create the necessary DDL statements. You can also create the database, detach it, and move it from machine to machine. So a blank database could be setup, zipped, and then remounted on the new machine.

I just used the stanard installation routine to install it, same as you did. If you are getting an ActiveX error, then try one of the other managers I mention above.

Let me know if you need any further help. I know of at least one other person that has managed to get MSDE working with GBPVR.

Well, finally found some free time to create the necessary DDL statements for creating the GBPVR database in MSDE. You can run the attach DDL statements either with OSQL (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defaul...l_1wxl.asp), or through one of the tools I mentioned in earlier posts that allow you to run SQL statements (I personally use SQL Tools. Just like the interface better).

Anyway, this will create all the necessary tables, and indexes for the GBPVR database so that it can be run on SQL Server or MSDE. This does not require Upsizing the database with Access 2000. You will still need to configure your system with the GBPVR config tool, but for those without Access, you can now at least create the necessary tables.

You can also connect to your MSDE database using Access if you want to edit your db

You can also download the trial version of SQL Server from Microsoft and only install the tools, not the db server. The tools don't expire and work just fine with MSDE.

JohnK,

Thanks for the tip about the MS Tools. Worked great. Now I can actually create a DTS package to help with the migration from Access to MSDE.

From cginzel:

[b Wrote:Quote[/b] ]This seems like an awesome option and I'd like to try it our myself. I downloaded the MSDE and installed it using the SAPWD parameter, but I wasn't able to log in with the MSDE Manager. It kept comming up with an ActiveX error...

I had the same problem using the "MSDE Manager" from White Bear. Then I downloaded the "MSDE Manager for .NET" and I connected without a problem. Give that a shot.

Here is an updated DDL script for GBPVR 0.2313.

Episode Guide updates would fail with an incorrect cast type when trying to save the Channel information. Zap2It episode guides should now correctly update.
