pBS Wrote:yea, splitter/demux/demultiplexer same thing...and it's the mpeg splitter...i use it on both server and client..

I downloaded and registered the mpegsplitter. I then went into graphedit and found the splitter and it is called " MPC - Mpeg Splitter (Gabest) "

I then went into config, found demux and replaced the "MPEG-2 Demultiplexer" with the MPC... name. I did a quick recording and in the logs it shows that the MPEG-2 is still being used. Am I using the wrong name? Do I have to do anything else to get GBPVR to use that demux?

GB-PVR always uses the 'MPEG-2 Demultiplexer'. You cant switch this out for some other third party demux - the app depends on too many features only available in this demux.

not on mine it doesn't...Big Grin

and graphs bear this out as well..

and it works great...MPC demux has never caused me any problems...
it maybe because i upped the merit of MPC splitter but i don't remember having to for gbpvr to use it..
i stream HD easily to client with it...works on ts,ps,m2ts really well...
for me at least eveything stuttered on client without it...and hd stuttered on main pvr without it...or at least any other demux besides ms one...so i had to use one..tho now that i have total acceleration it doesn't seem to matter as much..Smile
but that is on xp...vista's probably does work better...

now on livetv timeshift, or in-progress recordings it isn't used... there the gbpvr parser is used...
still no ms demux shows up in graph..

Soccerdad: looks like you got the string right but if those spaces were at beginning and end on config,it wouldn't work...
here's mine: <PreferredMpegPlaybackDemux>MPC - Mpeg Splitter (Gabest)</PreferredMpegPlaybackDemux>

Ok, there are some situations when it'll use a different demux, but they're limited, and reducing every release (for example, transport stream files with 1.3.7). It always uses the 'MPEG-2 Demultiplexer' for live tv, playback of transport stream files and for playback on in-progress recordings.

Thanks to both of you. For the fun of it, I tried cutting and pasting pBS' line in config. I then restarted recording service and made a quick recording from the guide. The logs are still showing the MPEG-2 Demux. Go figure. Anyway, I don't really need it and will stay with the stock setup for now anyway. I can use file share and it works for me with TS files.

I will keep playing with the other settings to learn more.

Are you guys running Vista or XP? Do the new ATI drivers work with XP?

My server is on XP but I am only using the ati mux on that one. It is an Nvidia machine. The Client is Vista Home Premium. The 8.11 drivers in it now work great. The 8.12 don't work as well with no HA.

i'm on xp here...same with MCE or pro...
and glad to hear they work just as well with Vista as XP...
8.12 had the same results here on xp, no ha decoding and bad vertical sync..
i think they just worked on the transcoder for 8.12...
like i say i used avivo 8.12 with 8.11 cat and worked fine...so i doubt they changed much...

about the demux, i'm still using 1.2x so that's why i can use a different mux...Smile
but hey if it works with the new builtin mux and files have always worked well with ms mux so sounds like you're set as is...Big Grin

it's pretty sad they took this long to put out a fully working driver, cuz when it works, it works right off without tweaking, and when it doesn't, no amount of tweaking will help...
and it seems to be same for every card i've tried...even 9550 showed incredible results!

now i wish i'd gotten that 2600 pci card i saw once...it probably works great too now..lol
[i'll be trying them on an agp hd3650 soon, bro's system]

To close out this thread I thought I would update on where I ended up (for now).

I have the server running ts mux with the standard demux.
The client is running EVR with the Microsoft MPEG-2 video decoder, ffdshow audio decoder and AC3 filter for AC3.

The ATI MPEG decoder would not do HA with EVR, but it would with VMR9. The lowest CPU use was with the ATI and VMR9 Full Screen Exclusive. The MPEG-2 and EVR gives about 20-28%CPU use.

Live HD tv works fine but the stuff off the analog tuners stutter and lock in live TV. This is not an issue for me, but I thought I would mention it. Everything plays back fine which is what I really need.

I did buy one of those really cheap IR receivers and remotes off e-bay ($9, free shipping!) It does almost everything I need it to do, but it does not pause and the fast forward is limited. Unfortunately it is acts as a HID keyboard/mouse and I have not figured out how to fix it with eventghost. It would be great if we GBPVR could natively use these HID devices with all the functions. (or we could somehow map to them) The remotes are cheap and plentiful. I foresee an MCE remote in my future. I really only need the MCE beanbag if anyone knows where to get one of those on its own. I will then use my Harmony for the remote.

Thanks to all for your help. I learned a lot on this one. (and am still learning).
