This version works rather well.
But I have two things that could be better...
First I would like some added functionality - I would like a possibility to replace the filename. For instance, I had to manually load all episodes of "Merlin.2008" as the grabber thought that "2008" where the season/episode info. Furthermore, I always got the info for "Merlin 1978" as default. So a Search/replace functionality would be great. (Even though it's not that hard work to do it manually...)

I don't think I want to add a rename feature as this could have side effects. Any of these files in the GBPVR db would then be off, and I didn't want this program to affect db entries. You might see if WizRenameRecording (or one of the other renamer tools) can do what you need as far as the file names go.

Then the next enhancement I would like is tohave the possibility to use the series ID number from thetvdb. The reason is that sometimes there is a lot of series with almost the same names and other series that can't be found anyway. Like Journeyman. No matter what I tried I always get a movie(?) with the same name from 1995. If I could use: 80494 - the series ID number instead, it can be found.

That is a possiblity, I already have added the ability to specify the series and episode as S99E99 or 99x99 format. I would need something to key off of to identify that the number is the TvDb key though. First provide a couple of full filenames you are having an issue with, and I'll see if the current logic can't be tweaked to handle better.

I understand the rename problem. It is not a big issue, as the tool works perfectly in most of the cases. I think it will be impossible to cover all possibilities.

There was errors in the Journeyman file name... So just forget that one.

But it is still valid for series with ambiguous or common names;
Merlin 2008.s01e02.ws.pdtv.xvid-affinity.avi
In this case wiould the metagrabber search for season 20 episode 08... I think that feature is great as the grabber interprets Series name.102 correctly as season 1, ep. 2. But if I can rename the file and add a identifier that keep the "2008" as part of the name, that would be great (or replacing the string with the correct db #).

Ok, I see now. I'll take a look at the logic and see what can be done about interpreting the Season/Episode correctly.

The result is "Eleventh hour (1942) and the image is Superman from the 70 or 80s. The correct hit is named "Eleventh Hour (US)" But I wont get that hit even if I rename the file to that (with brackets). The only way I did succeed in loading correct info is by entering the following in the "Series|Episodes" dialog:
"Eleventh Hour (US)|S01E03. The pipe and no space. A hyphen with or without space - no hit (it takes a looong time searching though).


But as the tool works so well in most other cases, is there some command line abilities?

Javawiz, I just wanted to say thanks for a really good utlity.

I just spent an hour using this program on my archive folder and it did a really good job.

I did a very impressive job when I used the series override (The Simpsons) on my dozens of episodes of the simpsons, who's file names are the episode name.

At this point, there is no command-line interface. I may add that once things settle down and I have a bit more time...

You might try the most current version I posted on the Wiki today. I tried the title

Eleventh Hour (US) - S01E03.HDTV.avi

And it found it.

Working great now... I edit most of my recordings to get rid of the padding and ads, but I loose the ADS stuff - now I've got an easy way to put it back in - I still haven't figured out all the possibilities yet...

A command-line interface is definitely worth doing.

But there is always a 'But'

I'm a 2-belt and braces chap, so I like to have my meta-data embedded, in an xml file and in a Recording Format file. It would suit me to be able to select both of the existing options in 'Options/Save Metadata' as well as a third 'Recording Format' option - then I could do it all with one 'Retrieve Metadata'
