i updated the main program with these changes to both xp and vista/7 systems..
still some testing to do on 'fresh' systems that haven't had any policy changes just to make sure how it works on typical installs..

also fixed the restart/shutdown options as they were reversed, made sure not to have to force them so open docs will get saved, cleaned up the dialogs a bit..etc..

if you lose the shutdown options on start menu, just run the program and exit when nothing is recording..or use the above batch files to undo changes..

let me know how it goes..Big Grin

pBs, I don't want you to think that I'm ignoring your efforts so just to let you know that I'll be looking into them but have been busy with other stuff the last few days. Will let you know what I find asap.

no prob....it's still a bit rough around the edges, so whenever you can..
something not quite the same in win7 policies, but it does work...
i'm learning lots about the policies and scripting them..will come in quite handy when setting up newbies machines..can preset lots of stuff and hide things they shouldn't mess with..

i just wish they had some normal scripting mechanism instead of using the registry..
as results differ from using the .msc and entering same info in registry..
and while xp updates are instant, win7 they are slow...

Well pBs, I've installed the abortshut that you posted a couple of weeks ago. It prevents Shutdown of my computer and also Sleep from the Start Menu or power button while recording. Unfortunately I don't use Sleep mode, if for no other reason than the large power light on the computer flashes in Sleep mode and really annoys my wife when she gets up in the middle of the night, and then she wakes me up and tells me how she doesn't like it! I'll see if the motherboard has a setting that disables this. I have been using hibernate, but abortshut doesn't inhibit this function.

I've had a bit more of a play with this and overcome my problem with the pulsing power light in sleep mode by setting the power settings to hibernate after a few minutes in sleep mode. So it all now seems pretty fail-safe on my Windows 7 computer: abortshut will prevent shutdown, restart, sleep and log off, which are the four disruptive options available in the Start Menu, and it will also do the same when the power button is pressed (it is set to Sleep). Thanks pBs.

aha...will have to catch the sleep button somehow...Smile
good fix tho..mine has a pulsating light too, but it's not real bright..
i even found a more efficient method of updating windows instead of using gpupdates..

the hibernate issue...hmmm, it should catch those too...from timer or user interaction?

so more updates planned..finally have my win7 box up and running, made it into a pvr for the livingroom with a Intel g45 board and it is sweet..[finally! drivers that work! yeay!]

am also making a client rec import so both independant pvr's can share recordings..Smile
[imports eachother's recordings with net path adjustments]

glad it's workin for ya..any requests?

I'm not having any luck with abortshut here. My Windows 7 PC still goes into standby if the power button on the remote is pushed during recording. I have come in late on this one, so have just installed and run your latest executable - I've made no manual registry changes. But from what I understand, I shouldn't need to do this with your latest exe. Any suggestions?

hmm, i don't have that key mapped to suspend for a long time so forgot about that one..it's special...

problem with win7 is, they don't allow denying suspends, why i had to just hide the start menu's suspend button....
tho i obviously can't hide the remote's suspend button...Big Grin

Hi pBS. I've just reformatted my HD & reloaded Windows 7 to overcome a couple of problems and took the opportunity to install Next-PVR, which works quite well for me already despite its beta status. However your AbortShut doesn't detect it. Do you think that you can rectify that (please)?

shoudn't be too hard tho..i'll see what i can come up with here in a few...
but my npvr install is still just for testing here..haven't got it totally setup yet to be able to test this..
