Yep, thats what I was thinking. (but not something I have time to look into right now)

It probably wont help NMT users, but at least being able to record and watch the bulk of digital cable channels on the PC would be good for a lot of users.

Unfortunately it's useless here in Canada or I'd have given the idea a go. I would have used this concept as a starting point http://babgvant.com/files/folders/sageto...14737.aspx

I have to play with it a bit more but it appears that the wtv and dvrms files that play fine in GBPVR on the pc, don't want to work on the PCH via GBPVR. I'll see if it's something I did or not.
The PCH doesn't play wtv or dvrms but I may try renaming dvr-ms to mpeg and see if that makes any difference. If not, it's very simple to convert to mpeg. There doesn't seem to be much out there that like the wtv format anyway.

The Syabas players don't play DVR-MS or WTV files, you didn't do anything wrong. Microsoft does.

Yup. Just need to figure out how to programatically get MCE to do the recording. The recording source side for GBPVR would be a piece of cake. "Live TV" would be problematic but there's ways around that (timeshift mode basically). The most difficult part will be to convince my wife to let me buy an OCUR. LOL. You should have seen her face when I suggested the boat (sorry Graham, I like the idea personally). I thought she was getting seasick right then.

Many times I use VideoReDo to strip the commercials and then encode to H.264 (they just released VRD TV Suite 4 with H.264 addon.......works great).

Couldn't you have your GBPVR box read and stream files from a network share off the Media Center PC?

I'm sure I could. What I do now works for me and you can't make too many changes and have the wife be happy. Smile
It's always a work in progress.
