Next to no chance of ever seeing N-PVR on Linux or Mac. Sorry.

Thanks for the straight forward answer Sub. If you had answered ambiguously I would have sat tight with XP until i learned more. Now I am green light for Win7. so many changes. i fear the unknown, maybe i should rent a pvr cable box from comcast - nah...

In retrospect, waiting until you got back from last month's business trip was pretty much a Really Good Idea. The breadth and depth of the changes caught many by surprise, I'm sure.

Yes, with such major changes, and sub's own preference for Windows 7, I might try and dig out a spare hard drive and do all my N-PVR testing on a fresh Windows 7 install rather than attempting to do it side by side with the current XP one.

I'm using GBPVR for recording only, using 3rd party streaming solutions to display the recordings. With no video rendering taking place on this Windows XP recording server, is there any reason to upgrade this to Windows 7 (for NPVR)?

I am in the same position and see no reason to give Microsoft more of my money for no obvious return.

Does extender support change with n-pvr? I saw your post the mediamvp are a bit different now. What is the recommended extender now for n-pvr if you want hd and dvd playback at the extender? aph?

Thanks!

HD and DVD playback? Then an NMT is the way to go, for example an Egreat EG-M34A.

So an NMT like the Egreat can serve as a full extender being able to watch and pause live tv, etc, etc?

Wow! Sub! Good form!

I think every so often, an application should get a full re-write, even if principles and maybe some code get carried over. This helps to keep a lean, clean codebase and make sure core requirements stay core!

My GBPVR box has been sitting in the basement as a server, serving movies and music, with no capturing happening. Just haven't been able to get the digital boxes to analog tuners working. (Stupid comcast and US standards.)

I can understand standardizing the encoding. Question... if you can answer it. Does any of this help or point to a path of native support for Blu-Ray and/or CableCARD? (I know there are costs involved in development... just wondering/hoping) Smile
