Done for both TCP and UDP but no change to the end result.

And it seems that the service still isn't starting and running properly. I've just looked in task manager and the NPVR service is showing as stopped. If I used the installed shortcuts to stop and then start the service, the service shows as running for a few moments and then switches to stopped. It's as if something on the system is actively interfering with the service.

Can you zip and post Nrecord.log? (Possibly all versions of it)

Do you see nrecord.exe in the taskmanager process list if you select the 'show processes from all users' option?

Log files attached.

When I first looked for the nrecord.exe process in taskmanager I couldn't see it, then I realised that the process wasn't running so started it and the process duly appeared but is only displayed when the "Show processes from all users" option is ticked.

In the most recent logs, there is no sign of any errors. If when it's running in task manager and you click "live tv", and you still get this "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:8968", then its definitely something being caused by your firewall / antivirus software.

In the past some people have found they had firewall software they didnt know they had, so take another close look at your machine.

As the boss says, it looks as a perfectly normal start in the recent logs. Do you get tuner status from Ntray.exe?

I can't see any other firewall or anti-virus software installed.

At present recording in the program seems to be working and I can cancel / delete recordings without a problem. But the NPVR Recording Service is stopped.

Trying to start it from services.msc, I get this error:
[Image: attachment.php?attachmentid=30739&stc=1&d=1308505905]

Trying to start it using the installed shortcut, I get this error:
[Image: attachment.php?attachmentid=30740&stc=1&d=1308505912]

Are there any other ports that the firewall could be blocking?

I've tried stopping the service for my VNC client but that has had no effect. The only other thing running in the background is the client software for my NAS.

I'm pretty sure it is firewall / antivirus related somehow, but a certain feature of NPVR is confusing issues for you.

Make sure you have <ForceRecordingServiceUse>true</ForceRecordingServiceUse> in the <Recording> section of your config.xml, then reboot, any it'll force it to use the service version of the recording service. This should fix the problem where recording service has sometimes not started (because the sockets have been in use by a local version of recording service spun up inside NextPVR.exe). I suspect you'll be back to recordings and live tv not working, but hopefully it'll be more consistent for you to investigate further.

Well there wasn't any such line in the config.xml so I added it and rebooted.

On startup the service wasn't running, so I went to services.msc and tried to start it, which worked. However the service still shows as stopped in task manager. I then started NPVR and the programmed recording I'd been testing with resumed as soon as the program started (and stopped when I closed it).

The device status has worked sometimes in the past, but slowly. I've just tried running it again and a couple of minutes have passed with no details appearing in the window. I also find the tray icon quite slow to respond (a few seconds between right clicking and the menu coming up and a few seconds for the menu to update when I move the cursor).

It sounds like something is blocking access to the loopback interface - 127.0.0.1

I'd be disconnecting your machine from the internet, disabling the windows firewall/avast & rebooting. Does that fix your problem with NPVR?

If not, get yourself a network monitor - I use MNM on w7 64 bit:

& a decent process monitor to replace task manager:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysin...s/bb896653

& do a bit more digging.
