but do you think the "Hauppauge 418" entry could explain why it didn't work for him? Or is something else afoot?

No, it'll be something else. Its not a good day for me to investigate further though - busy with day job stuff.

That's what I figured... the "Hauppauge 418" being there could only really cause a problem if there were actually a real Hauppauge 418 device in the machine too - then NPVR would errantly think both devices were all part of the same device. So it's good we have it right now, but still a mystery why it doesn't work for Engineer_Ted.

Perhaps the filtercheck will reveal something funny, like a space at the end of a filter name or something else I didn't get from looking at the nrecord log (though Hauppauge tends to be more tidy than that I think). If that isn't it, I guess it will be up to you like always Wink

Filtercheck log attached (as well as pasted).

BTW, Win7 64b. Same system I had GBPVR running.

Once this gets ironed out, I will eventually want to add a couple more Hauppauge 950Qs. Doing so may even sort of paint over this situation?

I also run teamviewer on that computer in case this problem becomes a serious stumper. I can allow full remote access if it becomes necessary.

I did mod the devicerules file to the following:

<Rules>
<SharedNames>
<!-- Hauppauge 88x family -->
<Filter name="Hauppauge WinTV 88x DVB-S/S2 Tuner/Demod" resource="Hauppauge 88x" />
<Filter name="Hauppauge WinTV 88x DVB-T Tuner/Demod" resource="Hauppauge 88x" />
<Filter name="Hauppauge WinTV 88x Video Capture" resource="Hauppauge 88x" />

<!-- Hauppauge HVR-22xx family -->
<Filter name="Hauppauge WinTV-7164 Analog Capture" resource="Hauppauge 22xx" />
<Filter name="Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA DVBT Tuner" resource="Hauppauge 22xx" />
<Filter name="Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA ATSC/QAM Tuner" resource="Hauppauge 22xx" />

<!-- Hauppauge 418 family -->
<Filter name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 BDA Tuner" resource="Hauppauge 418" />
<Filter name="Hauppauge WinTV 418 Video Capture" resource="Hauppauge 418" />

<!-- Hauppauge HVR USB2 -->
<Filter name="Hauppauge HVR USB2 BDA Tuner/Demod" resource="Hauppauge HVR USB2" />
<Filter name="Hauppauge HVR USB2 Video Capture" resource="Hauppauge HVR USB2" />
</SharedNames>

</Rules>

No change in symptoms.

Originally had trouble finding the file, it's in c:\users\public\NPVR

Sorry, I don't see anything in the filtercheck that sheds any more light on this. It should work with the DeviceRules entry already provided.

I'm afraid I will likely have to punt and turn this matter over to sub.

Please post one more set of logs, showing just two situations:

1. Restart the recording service, to get a fresh log.
2. Start NPVR, go into Settings and view the Devices screen. Don't do anything now, just cancel out of Settings... some stuff about the devices gets logged when you view the screen.
3. Start an analog recording. Wait 20 seconds. Now try to watch LiveTV on a Digital channel. Whatever it does, wait 20 seconds. Now cancel the recording, exit.
4. Restart the recording service again, for another fresh log.
5. Start a digital recording. Wait 20 seconds. Now try to watch LiveTV on an Analog channel. Whatever it does, wait 20 seconds. Now cancel the recording, exit.

Having short logs showing only a single test makes them easier to interperet, and waiting a bit between actions makes it clear when the logging for one action ends and the next begins.

I assume the logs kept writing after each restarting of the services. If you need more, just say the word.

Your new logs look good. It's still clearly ignoring the DeviceRules.xml entry (or perhaps more correctly, it's not applying the rule to the devices in use). I don't see anything else for me to do.

Sub, as you can see I've done my best. I defer to your expertise at this time.

I'll probably need to put in some more log messages so we can see what is happening when it checks the device rules. I'm a bit busy with day job stuff to do that right now though.

It might confirming whether or not it lets you schedule an analog and digital recording at the same time. (instead of live tv + recording)

Instead of trying to watch, I tried to record an analog channel and a digital channel. It appears to be recording, at least that's what the device status is showing.

Both shows show file sizes growing under c:\temp\...

So, I can record one each, just not watch?

Update: I can record an analog and a digital, and play (technically not "watch") either show while it's recording. Still can't watch a digital channel while an analog channel is recording (and vice versa).

So, if I add a couple of 950Q's, will that confuse the situation? I'm in no hurry (and I rarely watch live TV anyway).
