mvpmcx2 is able to autodetect whether or not it has connected to NPVR or GBPVR and react accordingly. The html and cgi files are effectively just "hacks" to load mvpmcx2 onto the PCH, so you have finished the hard part but you can change the name and the text part of the HTML file if you want to make it clearer.

That's how I thought it would be but just thought I'd check.

So basically just a parallel to the way an MVP would automatically download it's dongle on a power-cycle. Again, that's how I was beginning to understand things but wasn't sure.

I'm not sure it's worth it although for my wife's benefit I could just substitute the words "Magic Box". She'd like that. Big Grin

Mr bgowland, out of interest, in case I missed something, how are you finding your PCH experience?

Very positive....but difficult to quantify. At the very least, it's certainly a step up from using the MVP.

Simple things such as it works better with our widescreen TV - as much as I tried, tweaking MVP settings meant that the picture was often either thinner/taller or fatter/shorter than it should be. Not so much that things looked ridiculous, just 'not quite right'.

It's also more stable when handling recording glitches. With the MVP, if there was a hiccup in the stream, playback would pause, click and jump usually with the result that AV sync would be out. A couple of skips forward and back usually fixed it but it was a bit of a pain. So far whenever the PCH has had to cope with glitches, the pause/jump is the same but it has never lost AV sync.

So basically - more stable and better suited to widescreen recordings and TVs.

Cheers,
Brian

Brian

Brian, this is the bit that interests me Big Grin

though you went a good way to quantify versus MVP!

What scenario have you tested the PCH on?

I've been using the PCH A110 as the 'main device' in our Living Room since I 1st got one. 1st with GB-PVR then NextPVR.

Literally if the PCH doesn't work there is no TV and Mrs Steeb would be very upset Big Grin

very best

Basically, the PCH (and the MVP before that) allow access to N-PVR to schedule recordings and play them back. I have simple needs. Smile

The TV has a built-in Freeview tuner so there's no need to use npvr / PCH for watching live TV (the npvr box only has DVB-T tuners so can't provide anything better than the TV).

One other potential 'step up' from the MVP is local drive capability - I can see it being useful for archiving some recordings to take the load off the npvr box's recordings drive. Haven't tried it yet though.

Brian, very, very interesting.

I am collating, though only currently in my head, how people use the PVR PC based experience. Would it be fair to say then that realistically you still rely on the Freeview STB (or TV based Tuner) to deliver the TV experience?

thank you Sir!
