Help: how to install GBPVR on wMVP?

Hi all

Apologies for the stupid questions, but I need some help...

I've had the PVR-150 with GBPVR for a while (excellent programme!), and have recently bought the Hauppauge wireless MVP from Amazon in the UK. I've set it up ok using the standard crappy Hauppauge software which is working fine, but was wondering if there is a way to use the GBPVR software on this device? The standard Hauppauge software is playing back half screen avi/divx movies etc which is just rubbish...

Firstly, is this possible, and is there a step by step guide somewhere which explains what to do to get me up and running?

You'll probably get the same sort of behaviour with GB-PVR for avi/divx file. This device just isnt a good choice for playing these types of files. It's hardware is only designed for playing MPEG1/MPEG2 content, so playing avi file requires all sorts of on-the-fly transcoding etc.

That said, there are some plugins to improve things a little (ZProcess corrects the screen positioning when playing AVI files).

Using GBPVR with avi filesthrough my PC via PVR-150, I get perfect full screen on my TV, but with the Hauppauge I get a small screen towards the top of my screen...

It's really poor quality video at present too...

PC's can play AVI files, and have full control over the placement and aspect ratio etc. MVPs dont.

When you try to play an AVI file on an MVP, it has to try encoding to an MPEG file on the fly, which results in a loss of quality etc. Also worth reading this thread when you try this in GB-PVR: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=23240

The Hauppauge MVP software will only play certain resolution AVI files with the correct placement.

You're better off sticking to MPEG2 files if you have an MVP.

I've just changed the setting from PAL to NTSC, which seems to have made an improvement to the picture size - now its more centred on the screen and bigger, which is more like it...

So, if I only want to view content (MP3, videos etc), would I be better off keeping the default software?

Oh, one other question... When viewing pictures, the quality seems to be much poor and much lower res than the originals - is the wMVP downsizing them to allow for faster viewing? Is there a way of increasing the resolution?

Bear in mind that your TV (unless its a high-def one) will be running at a much lower res than any PC monitor.

Yeah, what he said. The resolution MVP video signals follow the PAL or NTSC standards so cant be changed (720x576 or 720x480).
