Hi,
I have just set up nDroid with NVPR and i cant get the remote recording to work.
I send the recording and the nDroid server recieves it, but NVPR doesnt.
Any ideas what could be the problem.

Can you confirm that you have the npvr web server enabled? In NextPVR Settings there's a page for "NMT & Web" with a check-box for "Enable web server".

If that is checked (i.e., the server is enabled) and you still get that error then the only thing I can think of is maybe firewall software on your PC might be blocking the connection.

Two issues I've had:
1) I will launch the nDroid application from my phone and the guide will be blank. Running "Update Guide" does not update it. It isn't until I run "Reset," click "Yes" on 'this will clear all data,' launch the application, and click "Save" on the network settings. Only then will the guide populate. This happens frequently.

2) I tried to schedule 2 recordings from my phone remotely this past week. The phone application said it was 'successful.' When I got home, neither program had recorded. I've attached the logs nDroidServiceHelper.log & web.log.1. The rest of the logs were purged.

In nDroidServiceHelper.log you can search for:

nDroid Service: 1.6.4349.430032
nDorid Client: 1.6.8

When you say it happens frequently do you mean you can start it and the guide details are there but a couple of hours later they're not? Or is it less frequent (every other day, several days)? The app currently doesn't update automatically so relies on manual updates periodically.

In saying that though, the fact you have to use Reset to get it to update is slightly worrying.

What happens if you try Update Guide (without a reset)? Do you see a popup with the progress wheel? If so how long does it take to disappear? Also I find sometimes if I've gone to the point of an empty guide, after the download the guide screen screen is still blank and I have to change channel or exit and go back in (a bug I still need to fix).

Ideally I'd also need the nDroidServiceListener.log to properly track things. The nDroid service logs are never purged (unless you did it manually).

There's still a lot of work to be done and I haven't had much feedback from anyone recently so if you can reproduce some things and provide a full set of nDroid logs and hopefully some more of the web/npvr logs then I can hopefully get to the bottom of it.

I only use the application a few times a week (if that). However, I just did everything step-by-step for your information and after 'updating' the guide on the phone I saw the same behavior.
  • When I start "nDroid" on my phone, it may or may not already have program guide information displayed (in this test case it did). I see the channel logo, description, days of the week, and a program guide.
  • I hit the 'menu' key, "Update Guide." It says "Please wait. Downloading files," then "extracting," finally "Populating database." This process took approx 45 seconds over the carrier (not WiFi).
  • The application closes.
  • I click "nDroid" and the program guide is blank. I see the channel logo, description, and days of the week. Where the program guide would be is black, nothing there. Any other channel I select is also blank.
  • I then repeat... hit 'menu,' "update guide," the whole thing... same result.
  • Then I hit 'menu' then "Reset" answer "Yes" to 'this will clear all data.'
  • The application closes.
  • I click "nDroid."
  • Click "Save" on 'network settings' (not changing anything). It has the full screen "nDrod Downloading files" with the 'nDroid' logo and weird gear. It pauses and then Ch 2 appears with program data. All other channels have program data.

When you see the logs, the last 3 updates should be from the process I described above.

Yeah, that was stupid on my part for just attaching 2 of them. Rolleyes I have corrected that and both C:\Users\Public\Beetec Services\nDroid Service\logs & D:\NPVR\Logs are in the archive.

OK, that's not good - the bit about the app closing. Using the Update Guide option may not always automatically refresh the list when it finishes but if the app closes then that's not a good sign.

Just for reference, it's meant to close in this instance so that bit isn't a bug. Smile

It's approaching 5am here so I'll have to look at these later. I'm not sure why a reset/update would work but an update from the menu fails. Hmmm.

Just wanted to say 'thanks' for this app which I use, and to say that I experience exactly the same as above. It's not a huge issue as a full reload is so quick. If you need anything from me let me know. I did get 'update guide' to work once, not sure why or how though.

Firstly, the Update Guide not working...

I can see a number of attempts to download the 7 day guide zip file which fail because the file is locked...
Quote:[17/01/2012 00:56:39.513 CreateHttpListener - action:download threw exception: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Users\Public\Beetec Services\nDroid Service\data\zip\sevendayxml.zip' because it is being used by another process.
That sevendayxml.zip file is generated by the nDroid service itself so it suggests it isn't closing it properly after a daily epg update - not sure why/how that could be. It also doesn't really explain why an Update Guide operation fails but a full reset works. Odd.

As for the failed attempts to schedule the recordings - the attempt to talk to the NEWA web service has failed but I'm not sure why...
Quote:[17/01/2012 18:56:37.529 System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Unauthorized
at N_EWA.classes.AuthExtension.ProcessMessage(SoapMessage message)
To an extent that's out of my hands BUT nDroid obviously shouldn't have reported a successful attempt.

I'm actually working on new versions of both the nDroid service and the client app. I'll double check the relevant areas of the code to try to make things more robust and at least make sure it correctly reports failed attempts to schedule recordings.

Sorry I can't provide a quick fix but hopefully th next version will be ready by the weekend.

EDIT:I thought some more after posting this reply and I'm slightly concerned about your NEWA setup. I've posted a support question in the NEWA thread to see if UJB has any ideas. I may be wrong but I'm fairly sure the failure to schedule those recordings was a NEWA issue and not specifically an nDroid one. As I said though, either way nDroid shouldn't have reported a success so I'll improve on the error handling.

Cheers,
Brian

Can you zip and attach your nDroid service logs and let me know a time (roughly) when an Update Guide failed so I can take a look. Thanks.

Thanks for looking into the situations. I don't know if it makes a difference, I saw there was a new version of GBPVR released last week but I'm still on 2.2.6.

I want to echo macgyver and say thanks as well. The update guide is a minor annoyance but the 'not recording' was more of an issue.
