Good enough for me... thanks.

I never use the Intervideo decoders and don't even remember why I have them installed, but I did so I figured it was worth testing.

I just tried the Main Concept decoder and it didn't work. However I'm not sure if I needed to enable it somewhere? I didn't see any setting for CC? I know with the ffdshow it was NPVR-> settings -> select the decoder -> ... box.

I know with my hauppauge 250 CC's worked with the ffdshow decoder. I switched to the HDHomerun and they stopped working. I presumed it was an issue with the HDHomerun. However at the same time I got rid of the set top box and moved to a cable card, so I wasn't sure if the cable card could have been the issue.

All you have to do is press ctrl-x in npvr during playback and select closed captions.

Switching to MainConcept decoder worked for me inside of NPVR.

Anyone know what Mpeg2 decoder the PS3 uses and if closed captioning would work with it? I'm planning on streaming ts files recorded from NPVR through Tversity to my PS3 and would really like to have closed caption support if possible so I can watch tv without worrying about waking the baby

Thats an entirely problem. You'd probably need to look in Tversity to see if it has any closed caption options. NextPVR doesnt really play any role in this.

Oh, I know it's not an NextPVR issue. Thanks for the investigation to figure out that certain decoders have issues with the CC. Now that I know that the captions are there and can be displayed, it's a matter of figuring out how to do it using Tversity. I was just wondering if anyone here knows offhand since the Tversity forums don't seem to have much traction.

For that your best bet it to use CCExtractor to create .srt files from the embedded captions. I am not sure if the PS3 will support them with .ts but it will with other video formats.

exactly what i was looking for. i pressed ctrl-x and my closed captioning started working.

am in australia. free to air digital TV only.

am using an unusual LAN based tuner. something from avermedia - like a homerun. out of production. with WMC it had constant "tuner not available" errors, with NPVR none (probably just a simple timeout issue, but could not find a way in WMC to increase it).

so far happy with NPVR on Win10. :-)

forced to use NPVR since they dumped WMC and also actively remove any hacked versions of it running on a Win10 PC!

have attempted mythbuntu and it is a lot more complex to set up than NPVR on Windows (which is not as easy as WMC).

pity there isn't a version of NPVR available for Linux (any flavor). :-(

Lots of folk use Kodi as a client to play recordings that were recorded using NextPVR ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Client.XBMC (page not yet updated to say Kodi instead of XBMC). Also search the forum for XNEWA that also runs under Kodi.
