Was that from playing the same "†Carl and Charlotte Dressage Super‡_20120601_18301930.ts" file? or was this a live tv attempt on that channel?

If you copy the file to the local machine, does it play any different? In an earlier log you were playing from a share.

That was the same file played from recordings. The only logs I've sent are from my server, so I'm not sure where the share came in. I did try to play the file on another PC, but didn't grab any logs from that. You probably saw \\marvin\media as the path. Marvin is the local machine, but I map it as \\marvin\media so its the same on all my devices.

I've just played a copy of the file from the local folder e:\media\video and the log is attached.

It looks like it's never trying to open the file, but it's not clear why - particularly when everybody else that has tried has been able to play the file.

Next step would usually be a patch to add some logging in the appropriate places to find out what is happening. Unfortunately it's bad timing though, with my build no longer compatible with 2.4, so patches wont be possible until 2.5 is available.

i bet it works better if you had a local path.... net paths, even locally resolving ones, don't work same as a local path, different windows mechanisms at work there..
i know there are performance differences between the 2..[mostly writing]

I dont generally use local paths at all. My server is in the loft and I only ever play anything on it if I'm having a problem. Generally we only ever watch clients, which of course need to be net paths.

This particular problem is not effected by either local or network connection. I put the file on a locally on a client PC and it behaves just the same.

What if you rename the bad files to take out the unicode control characters and play them from the Video Library.

Great suggestion Martin, That works. It does appear to be the unicode characters that causes the problem. This channel is the only one I record that uses the over the air program guide. All other channels use Radio Times data curtesy of Alan Birtles XMLTV. IIRC that has a function to strip unicode characters.

edit.
A quick flick through the program guide shows that all programs on this H&C channel have the same 2 unicode characters delimiting the program name. Just need to find an easy way to strip them and all will be good. Only seems to be a recent occurence, the boss has only complained about it recently, so something must have changed.

ah, I see, by the time we got the files, the funny characters causing your problem had been changed to something else that didn't cause a problem for us.

For me, the file came down named like this: †Carl and Charlotte Dressage Super‡_20120601_18301930.ts
server: NextPVR 5.0.7/Win10 2004/64-bit/AMD A6-7400k/hvr-2250 & hvr-1250/Winegard Flatwave antenna/Schedules Direct
main client: NextPVR 5.0.7 Desktop Client; LG 50UH5500 WebOS 3.0 TV
