I'll get back on the 4th tuner quality issue maybe tomorrow, but for now I would like to be deciding what to do about a remote to use with NPVR. With GBPVR, I used a Snapstream Firefly remote, with a GBPVR config file, and it worked very well. With NPVR, what should I do - try to get the Firefly working or go for a MCE remote (Microsoft brand or what?) or maybe a Hauppauge 45 button remote? Any suggestion will be appreciated.

I didn't try that, because the other tuner on the same card gives good recordings, so I didn't think the connection was the problem.

First of all, the tuner problem appears to be an issue with newer PVR500 cards. Found a thread on it at Snapstream. I have emailed Hauppauge. No answer yet.

Second, I would still like some advice re the remote question.

Last, what is the purpose of the NPVR folder in the Users/Public directory?

the npvr folder in users\public is all the configuration data, database, skins, plugins, scripts, etc. pretty much anything that isn't a core NPVR program file, .dll or filter is in there.

For the remote, if your snapstream firefly worked well for GB-PVR, it ought to work fine for NPVR as well. There are some minor keymappings changes, but not many. I think rewind was ctrl-d, now it's ctrl-r. you can look at the keymappings.xml file in the npvr data directory to see what keys are used.

If your upgrade to NextPVR also included an upgrade to Win7 then you could have problems because I recall reading (and posting here) that the PVR 500 has problems on 64 bit systems with more than 4GB of RAM.

Sorry, perhaps I didn't mention that it's Win7 32 bit with 2 gb ram.
