I don't really mind the Ads if it helps keep the project going - and I do try to remember to click thro' at least one a day.

same here, i didn't even notice it, I'm kind used to small adverts.
I think we all can let this "dude" get some extra $$$ from this, he sure as heck deserves it Smile

Since you can manually add people to the no ads list, just add an option profile to the donate area that is specifically for removing the ads. Change the donate button around the site to say ads can be removed with a small donation.

Just me perhaps?

I find this a very aggressive form of online marketing, at its worst?

If sub is sure that he would like to market in this way I would be one of the 1st people behind that. But I have always thought that NextPVR was built on principles. And I believed that one of those priniples was no bling!? Those google Ad's are now going Blingey. I say NO Big Grin Cheers Jaggy. Cheers sub

My intention/thought when I first post my message was to

1. Get rid of these bloody annoying adds for my own personal use

2. Hopefully generate a few more bucks for sub (to help cover the running cost of the forum).

it seems to me by removing the adds "for all users that have already donated" will have the opposite affect as far as generating more funds is concerned as if this bit of that email I received is correct "Contrary to popular belief there's no need to click ads to help us. Just allowing us to show ads is already a big help." it would mean less users are being shown the adds & therefore less money being generated??

Therefore I totally agree with persim's comment as technically it has the potential to generate a few more $ (although from reading this thread it seems not many users are worried by them so it's probably not worth spending much time on) maybe if it also applied to "new" donations above a certain amount might also generated a little bit more?

I disagree. The worst is when you go to a website and it refreshes to an ad page that you have to view before you can view the page you wanted to see. Second to that is AdSense words where you can't even move your mouse over the page without a popup. Third would be flash ads that expand to cover content on the page. Fourth would be popup/popunder ads.

In terms of ads, this site is nothing compared to a lot of other sites I've seen. One or two Google Ads on a forum is quite commonplace now and don't bother me in the least, especially if it helps keep this awesome software free. Then again, maybe sub should start charging for additional features. Wink

agree, this SMALL!! advert ain't enuf to fight about, and as you say, we all(probably) have seen worse, so this small stuff ain't nothing to argue about.

To be honest, I'm surprised some people are so bothered by the ads. Pretty much every forum I visit has ads in the same spots, and just about all of them using the same animated ads. Alot of the forums are much more more in-your-face with ads down the side or in between posts. For example, the macrumors forum I was reading a few minutes ago: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.p...35&page=16.

I've always thought we were very light. The change was prompted when I logged into my adsense account a few days ago and google popped up a message to say my ads weren't performing as well as they could, and asking if I'd like to try rich media adverts, for an estimated %65 increase in revenue. I thought 'ok, we'll give it a go'.

That said, until ACTCMS sent a PM couple of hours ago, I wasn't aware the donations page had been broken (by an unrelated wordpress edit), so this could explain why I havn't seen a donation in the last month or so.
