I have observed the picture quality on the new 1.02-223 version Purevideo decoder is not as good as the old 1.02-196 version. Interlaced video (TV recordings) has slightly blured motion on the 1.02-223 version.

I rolled-back to 1.02-196 and now have regained sharp clear motion.

For those of you using Purevideo decoder version 1.02-223, I highly recommend you try going back to version 1.02-196

For this PureVideo Version you need the latest ForceWare Driver (91.33 BETA), because some of the deinterlacing functions were now be done by the driver, not PureVideo itself.

Well yes sort of. To be more correct, the Purevideo decoder has no dependency on video card brand or driver version, however Nvidia video card driver (Forceware) versions prior to 91.31 do have dependency on certain Purevideo decoder versions.

If you want to use 3:2 pull-down on Forceware drivers prior to 91.31, then you require Purevideo decoder version 1.02-196 or earlier which contain an additional proprietary Nvidia control called 'smart' de-interlacing control, to control the 3:2 pull-down functionality in the forceware driver.

Forceware driver 91.31 and later can automatically determine and control its own 3:2 pull-down functionality without any dependancy on software decoder.

Purevideo decoder 1.02-223 has the proprietary 'smart' de-interlacing control removed (although I acknowledge it can still be seen as an option) because it is no longer required for Forceware drivers 91.31 and higher.

Hey csy,

I bought the ATI x1300 and was wondering which version of the nvidia purvideo i should get. Should I get the one that you recommend? Also, i do have SP2 installed on my pc, but do I need the directx fix?

Hi Mbox,

Once you have obtained an activation code (purchased or trial) for the Purevideo decoder, then you can use the code on any Purevideo decoder version. I personally find version 1.02-196 produces the best quality picture. I have documented additional information here:
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=18464

I'm not sure what you are referring to with respect to "directx fix", however I recommend you install the latest directx update, and if you have problems with studdering motion then try replacing quartz.dll with the Dx9b quartz.dll 6.5.1.902 version.

I saw this thread and thought it might help me but it does not.

I have a ghosting type issue with the purevideo codecs. It's not as bad with 196 as it was with 223, but it's still there. every 5-10 seconds I see what looks like a frame transposed on the top of the current frame. I've tried many combinations and 'smart' and 'best available' seems to be about the best but still not free from the ghosting. 'smarter' is even worse, the ghost shows up like every 2-3 seconds.

This is on the following hardware (my new PVR I'm currently preparing to take over the one in my sig):

A64 3700+
1GB PC3200
MSI GeForce 6150 (using the integrated video).

I have the same exact issue on the system in my sig which I'm trying the purevideo on also.

Any ideas?

I had similiar issues with both Nvidia cards I previously owned (6600GT and 7600GS), but not with any ATI cards I owned (9550SE, 9600XT, X1650)

Alrighty, so it's back to either Cyberlink or Intervideo. Thanks.

Just a little update. After seeing the picture and motion quality of Purevideo, i couldn't handle what Intervideo was able to muster anymore.

I found a thread in AVS forums about using the latest purevideo 1.02-223 and the latest geforce drivers 93.71 and users were able to get smooth playback without the ghosting or the shiny halo issues.

That seems to have fixed the ghosting and halo issues for me too, but now it will drop frames every 3-5 seconds. What's really messed up is commercials look freakin' perfect and then the show starts and it'll start dropping frames. The film type is "video" for commercials, then switches to "film" for the show.

I found another thread on AVS where they suggested setting the deinterlace to "smart" and checking the box for Inverse Telecine in the driver's properties. The picture and motion quality is VERY good now.
