Ouch, yeah I rarely do anything with emulators - they're a PITA. Can't advise about the Samsung emulator but one thing I learned about using emulators for Android is to keep the amount of RAM to the absolute minimum needed for testing - it seems to make them more stable and a lot faster to start up.

Cheers,

reven Wrote:just got a couple of samsung smart tvs, and started playing around with a nextpvr client for it. so far what works after a few hours effort.
- playback of recordings seems fine (NZ freeview recordings)
- live tv, only getting sound no video, tried transcoding, but still just sound
- interface is pretty easy to work with, basically just html, css and js so very easy to create a app for it.

just if anyone is interested in this... i may be able to get recording playback to work and a tv guide for scheduling... for live tv ill use the tuner in the tv, but for recordings i like using nextpvr on a server, so im happy with just guide + recordings.
Hell yeah this would make the perfect set up
Plus Samsung bluray players are cheap so a good client for existing tvs plus you get a bluray/DVD player

long night of programming (sometimes you just get wrapped up in it and dont notice the time Smile), have got
- main menu (looks pretty much exactly same as nextpvr)
- recordings screen, only listing "available/ready" atm, and doesnt do folders, but can play a recording from this screen
- player, can pause, stop, resume. skipping forward/backward not working atm and currently no OSD.

attached are a couple of pics i took of the tv running the app. nothing fancy just showing how similar the interface is.

Add me to the list of people with a Samsung BluRay player that would love to try this. Basically, all I use NPVR for is to schedule recordings & watch them. If you can eventually playback with ComSkip support, I'd be all set.
Tuners: SD HDHR Prime (HDHR3-CC). SD HDHR Connect Quatro Tuner (HDHR5-4US) - only QAM.  EXVIST H.265 Encoder - capturing cable box.
Client: Odroid-N2 running knewc on KODI - connected via MoCA.
EPG: SchedulesDirect
Provider: Verizon Fios
Server: Dell XPS 8700 with Windows 10

im pretty sure I'll be able to get comskip to work (assuming I get skip working, spent 1 min on this at 2am last night and it didnt work, but that was at 2am Smile) I also have comskip so would use this, so I'll add support if possible.

Quietly watching this thread as Samsung do appear, at the moment, to be driving one end of the marketplace! Reven, from initial screenshots I think you may be on to something! I nearly feel an urge to learn about skins. But there are others better placed Big Grin

Looks very interesting and exciting.

cheers

it would be very easy to make additional skins for the client, its all just css. one could just have a folder on the npvr server with samsung skins, and the app could just reference those files for the theme.

i could go 2 ways with this project, throw it up on github and make it open source, or try and sell it for $5 which would hopefully eventually pay for a dual/quad tuner...... (currently just using a single nova-t usb stick...), but i do like open source....

Difficult call. And that has to be your call! Before you can dev more then think again? Just offer 1 skin and make it right? Do not get distracted? That is just my view, it is your project. My 1 word of advice would still be..... Do not get distracted. This is looking (IMHO) very sexy Big Grin

But at end of day you put in the time. You get what you need.

But on an off-note I still think Samsung do appear to be way ahead of the game at the moment..... They appear to be embracing a consumer driven market when M/soft and Apple / i (call it what you will) are still so up there own ar*es they have not realized that there is a whole new deal coming along....

cheers
