just to balance out the 'Netgear Tat' aspect
I run two Netgear WNDR3800 routers in my house using DD-WRT firmware - one is the gateway to the Internet via BT Infinity (76mb) and serves the front house wifi zone and is port forwarding OpenVPN traffic to the other router which is at the rear of the house and handles rear house wifi traffic as well as being the openVPN server. Both routers have shell scripts for monitoring various aspects of my network/appliances.
Both wndr3800 routers have never failed/are solid in over a year of operation and seem to be a lot more reliable than the older, supposedly more Pro-aimed Billion and Draytek routers they replaced. I was in Moscow last week regularly VPN'ing into my UK located house when out and about for semi-secure web browsing (GCHQ excempted!) and Iplayer access via my DDNS address.
