Since I just went through hours of trying get GBPVR running again I would like to start using something that does incremental backups of the system like Norton Ghost but I am looking for a freeware program. For those of you that use one which do you recommend?

This one http://www.drivesnapshot.de/de/index.htmis my favourite for many years. It is NOT free, but IMHO definitely worth the money. It is very well maintained.

If you have a Seagate or Maxtor drive, then there is a free version of Acronis available built into their tools.

I ended up buying it from an Amazon offer as it has saved my life so many times. I can restore my netbook from a bootable USB stick in a couple of minutes with XP, win7, *nix or whatever mood I feel in....

Acronis all the way here, daily backups kept for a month. Has saved me so many times it's not funny (last one was when updating Dual boot W7 from beta to RC, I deleted the wrong partition - the production gbpvr install!! DOH) But it was back up and runnin gin about 15 mins with acronis.

I have Maxtor drives but that version of Acronis True Image doesn't seem to have the option of scheduling or incremental. The full version is cheap enough, cheaper than Ghost too, and there doesn't seem to be any freeware alternatives. Thanks to everyone for the help on choosing.

I use driveimage and it's been great. It's saved my butt many times on my HTPC and normal pc. I give this to everyone who asks me about back ups. The hardest part is making the bart PE disk. It doesn't do incremental however or at least I don't know how.

It takes me about 20 min to restore my C drive which only has the OS on it. It sure beats reinstalling!!

I use DriveImage once a month, and rsync for the daily incremental, saved on weekdays so I always have at least five days of backup to roll back to. For rsync, you need Cygwin.

It's a bit fiddly to set up but once done, stick it in a batch file and forget it. I've got it running via an AutoIT script that also saves to dated log files and archives them off.

I'd be happy to share the script and batch file if you're interested.

PS: The backup target is a Linux server in the basement running the rsync daemon.
