I did an upgrade from Windows 7 and told it not to keep anything so apparently this means that you won't get the DVD Player app or MPEG2 decoder when you do this even if you have WMC! Frustrating. I don't suppose there is any way yet to have the LAV Video decoder behave better with MPEG2 recordings (it gets all messed up when trying to skip around)?

sure you can make the LAV Video decoder behave better... it's open source, so just download the code and make it work better! easy!

Yeah. Super easy Smile. But it seems to be how NPVR interacts with the LAV Video decoder because I can use it in other apps ok.

It's an LAV problem. It doesn't play nicely with the Microsoft demultiplexer, which NextPVR uses.

Sorry if I asked this before, but I don't suppose there is any way to plug in a different demultiplexer or maybe there is not another one available? Thanks.

No there isn't. In theory, with a lot of work I might be able to do that, but it's not worth it for better compatibility with one decoder. Even if I did opt to do that work, there is very few other push mode directshow demultiplexers out there (I can think of two others), and having never used them, we don't know for sure they'd even really be useable - they may have other shortcomings.

Sorry sub, don't know how nextpvr is programmed, but i think that compatibility with lav (and other decoders) is very important. Can you try something with lav splitter? Mediaportal makes you choose the whole directshow filters chain, including the splitter.
Once the .Ts file is created, demuxing it is completely under user's control.
Also kodi dsplayer has a similar approach.
Don't know if i told something stupid.
Thank you,
sdf

What version of Windows was your Windows.old directory?

I might need to find away to programmatically tell if it's a broken or good version of the Microsoft decoder, so I can include it in the list if it's functional.
