millertinymouse Wrote:Thanks. I installed the two files. I had to stop the recording service for one of the files.

Still no change when I toggle the captions.
Note that I have the Cyberlink Video Decoder (PDVD10) selected for my MPEG2 Video Decoder.
I tried the other decoders, but was not able to get one to work and also have captions.
Thoughts?
That patch corrected the only issue I was aware of, and seems to have solved it for other users.

If you post your logs, showing an attempt to view closed captions, I'll see if anything stands out.

Hi: I made a manual recording this morning about 10 am, and tried to play it about 1 pm.
Logs are attached.
I have confirmed that file does have closed captions.

Did you try activating via the right-click context menu -> Subtitle Streams -> Closed Captions?

Yes. What would show in the logs to indicate that clicking?
I have been reloading from a backup to get me 3.6.6 but can do another upgrade cycle to try again.
I don't see anything in the logs while on 3.6.6 that seems to indicate clicking on the right click context menu.

There isn't any specific log message shown when you enable the closed captions. I'd been looking earlier in your logs to ensure the 'NPVR CC Extractor' component was being included - it's not included in a few scenario, like country set to outside us/canada etc. Also wanted to check the mechanism that you used to start closed captions, in case it was related to that.

If you can supply a short 30 recording, via dropbox / onedrive / gogle drive, I'll double check I get closed captions with your channels.

I made 2 recordings using v3.6.6 and 2 using v3.7.7 I am able to see closed captions on all 4 using the old version.

Hopefully you will be able to get them from Google Drive, the link is;

Thank you. Let me know if anything else is needed.

Hi: Did you have a chance to try theses files?
If you need anything more from me, please advise.

Thanks.

Are you sure you're able to see the captions on these specific files in in 3.6.6?

I've been looking at these files the last couple of hours and they seem to use a different caption format to anything I've encountered before, and in my tests the old components don't seem to be able to read either.

I'm wondering if its something related to the fact the movies, like they're using the different format used by DVDs. I'm still going to need to do more investigation before I'll know for sure.

Yeah, these were DVD style closed captions, which are different from standard broadcast closed captions.

I've updated the NPVR CC Extractor to handle this format for the next release, and I can now see the closed captions on those G.I. Joe and True Lies clips.
