I use "downloader" in Firefox. This particular downloader can download LIVE stream (like LIVE sports game).
BTW most "downloader" can't download LIVE streams. though they claim so.
I can see PART file size increasing, when finishing, it says "appending" then final MP4.
Sometimes I can see full file size (ex, 300MB for 30mins) MP4. But can't play cus bad PMT or something. Why? another topic.
Other times download stops, and only PART file remain, but can't play. It has .part extension and size shown too.
Now I know PART file has downloaded only part of MP4 thus can't play.
What confuses and frustrates novice like me is when google, I see many "claims" of..
how to play PART file, HOw to convert PART to MP4, etc...So I am thinking PART must be a legit type of file that can be converted to MP4.
Like converting AVI to MP4. BUt not true. It's hard to ask anybody online thus I come to forums like this to ask.
You'll never get a .part file of a video to play or convert if the header has not been downloaded into it and appended to the download.
They use .part and .crdownload and other extensions to not confuse the user that the download is complete. It's not a legitimate video format or a legit file extension either, for that matter. It's just a program specific extension that says "this is not a complete file for what you are trying to download." That's it. If some people have luck using a part of their incomplete download, good for them. They will have to wait for the complete download for the entire file and most likely will have to re-download if they corrupt it in their attempt to open it.
