It appears that your SRT subtitles are not NextPVR's built-in SRT support, but instead DirectVobSub (which is responsible for it's own placement/look etc).

If you press Alt-Y during playback, and select the "SRT" subtitle option from there, do you get another set of subtitles in the correct place?

Yes, when I select the SRT subtitle it gives me a second set of subs, much lower on the screen where I would prefer it.

NOTE: When I initially tried the above test, I didn't get the "SRT" option, just "Closed Captions".
I then discovered the SRT file was named slightly different than the MKV file; there was an "EN" added to the name.
I guess there's no way around having to rename the SRT files to be exactly the same as the MKV files?

The subtitles I'm using were downloaded from OpenSubtitles.org.

UPDATE: I found by adjusting the VSFilter parameters I was able to move the subs lower on the screen, but I don't know whether or not that's the right solution?

You can either disable VSFilter and just use the NextPVR SRT playback, or use that VSFilter parameter to show the subtitles lower on the screen. Whatever works.

I don't know - I've never used this VSFilter. This is autoloading itself into the playback and adding the subtitles. NextPVR isn't aware it's there or displaying subtitles.

VSFilter probably got some settings to enable/disable auto loading. Worse case find it on your machine and unregister it. (regsvr32 /u c:\path\to\vsfilter.ax)

Can't find vsfilter.ax anywhere on my PC.
I even tried playing the video at the same time I searched for it, but nothing.
I tried a wildcard search for *.ax and didn't find any files.

UPDATE: I was able to configure the filter from loading, so I guess that's my solution.
What about my file naming question regarding SRT files; must they be exactly the same as the MKV file?
Is that something you an change?

NEW PROBLEM: Just discovered that some MKV's that I downloaded earlier no longer display the subtitles with the VSFilter turned off.
There are no SRT files, I guess the subs are embedded in the MKV?

Yeah - sorry that was just a guess as to what the file name. A quick google search says it might be called "vsfilter.dll"

It currently expects the name to be the same, but with .srt extension. I could look to change this. What exactly are the filenames of the srt and video file?

Possibly. It kind of depends what other components Windows is using for playback of mkv files on your machine. Can you possibly send me a pm with download link for one of these files? I'll check it. In theory, if it's using the LAV Splitter, it'll still be able to do embedded mkv subtitles.

I don't use sub titles very often but the screen capture seems to be the most common ones I have seen in my downloads

This build supports multiple SRT files, and will show the language name next to each available SRT subtitle.
