Again. I can do an EPG update WITHOUT running the Yahoo app. Smile

he was referring to the potential pay-for-listings service that Sub is hearing rumors of from the mythtv/xmltv/tribune community.

I would wager that it will be US only for the first 3-6 months of operation and then add Canadian listings after an appropriate amount of demand.

Why do I think this? Tribune's distribution agreement for US and Canadian listings are separate; so CDN means more $$ per month from the reseller.

Here's to hoping I'm wrong though!

I'm using the plugin architecture in a standalone app. See the first two posts on page 37 of the thread.

I'll be happy to test whatever you come up with! I have 2 GBPVR systems and woould want the EPG update for both ... are you creating an XML file? If so can the plugin be changed as to where the file is created? If it is then I could write the file to a shared folder and only have to hit the service once a day instead of twice a day like I am now with Zap2It.

You can do that now with xmltv.

The app will output an XMLTv compliant file, so you would just set the EPG source in GB-PVR to the XMLTV Plugin. The app will run the -updateEPG when it is finished. The file be able to be saved wherever you want so you will only have to run one instance and you can update both machines with the output. The second one can be updated with a batch file that just tells GB-PVR to update the EPG.

I think it'd be best to have this as an option rather than always, since I'm sure most people would prefer to just add your utility to the UpdateEPG.bat (like most xmltv users do today).

tipstir Wrote:Why can't GBPVR pull down the titanTV EPG data like it did with Zap2it. Can't that be implemented?
Because I'd have to pay them $100,000+ or similar per year.

People are going to have to provide the listings themselves using one of the xmltv grabbers that have started to appear, or will most likely also have the option to pay for listings to get them directly (still waiting to hear details on this).
