Quote:I've completed all instructions found on this forum as I too can not get Presto to work. But even the GBPVR come up with a similar problem no display.
When I scan for channels I see what the channel is showing no problem but when I run the program all I get is ERROR: OBJECT REFERENCE NOT SET TO AN INSTANCE OF AN OBJECT ?? sorry means nothing to me any ideas please.. Thanks.
Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

ohffs Wrote:The problem is that the included drivers on the disk are borked ...get the newest drivers from the msi website and you will be ok

The updated drivers (including presto software) mentioned by ohffs are at:
_http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=624&kind=6

Follow the instructions to make sure you get the right drivers for the particular device you have. I couldn't get the supplied software to work at all and it was only after installing this new software that I was able to get a picture.

Hi All,

I have also just order the MSI Mega 580, I want to use GBPVR as reccomended by my cousin in law, but just read all these posts. Ordered the MSI mega because of the HD aspect not found in the Freecom units, bit concerned its not going to work now.

I have found the following info in my research already copied from scans website

Question / Problem
Using the aerial that comes with the Tv Tuner, only a few channels were found and most of them had corrupt pictures or no sound or both.

Answer / Solution
There is a software update for the Presto! PVR V5.0 software that comes with the device which can be downloaded from: http://www.newsoftinc.com/tech-Support/patch-Search.asp. From the drop-down boxes, select Product (Presto! PVR), Version (V5.0) and OS (Windows) and click search. You will see the update patch "Update PVR v5.00.03 for MSI USB DVB-T to v5.00.04". Click the link and select your language before clicking download
There is also an update from Microsoft which helps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896626. I now am able to scan more channels than previously and the signal strength has improved dramatically. Hope this helps!

Not sure if anyone here is applied the microsoft patch? I see theres also a couple of updates on the msi website.

Anyway my MSI product should arrive today, the question is can anyone confirm that it actually works as it should with gb-pvr or is my time better spent outside? May consider returning the prioduct if I can, if it dosnt work with gb-pvr. If I was to do this can anyone recommend something thats nice and easy instead that supports HDTV?

Thanks in adavance

Personally, I have had no luck getting it to work. and I have all the updates mentioned in your post installed. I have the tuner working in the bundled software (presto), showshifter, mediaportal, and winamp tv (although that required ticking the ignore microsoft providers checkbox. As stated before, for me at least it seems gbpvr doesn't actually manage to altar the frequency of the tuner for some reason, so it can only pick up channels on the same mux (broadcast at the same frequncy but with different unique id - in case you didn't know) as a channel recently tuned in on one of the other applications mentioned above. It is of course possible that I have a compatability issue unique to me, and perhaps others users can tell you if the MSI 580 works fine for them. To be honest though, you may as well give it a go, and if it doesn't work try something else. Let me know if you do succeed though, as I'd like to know why I'm having so much trouble if it isn't problem common to all these MSI tuners

I get the same problem. I've attached the error message.

Thanks for checking it out.

I've attached Config.exe.log and Config.exe-native.log. Hope these are the ones you're after.

Thanks!

A couple of things seem to be going wrong. In your logs. The first thing to try is running the ReRegisterFilters.bat file.

Just in case it helps anybody else out, I eventually found out that the problem in my case was due to media portal being installed. Apparently the two applications were not compatible, basically gbpvr was using media portal direct show filters and this was causing the problem. Installing the newest version of media portal (in my case 0.2 + stable patch) registers the offending filter with lower priority, and now gbpvr is working happily.

However, I highly reccomend getting the new driver and patches mentioned in silver surfers post as without those installed my system never found any channels no matter what software I used. So in essence, install the latest driver, patch windows, and ensure that media portal is bang up to date, and this tuner seems to be fine...simple huh!

Ah well at least it works in the end..
