I agree with that it's a combination specific to your GBPVR system -- I'm currently using Dscaler 5 decoder with VMR9 and audio encoder/renderer set to "System Default" (where it will remain until I can figure out what my system default is because that's the only setting that works for me). I also have my deinterlacing set to "None" rather than "Encoder Pass-through" which seems to work for a lot of other people.

In my experience, it's not just your video decoder that can cause jumpy video. For example, I can use Intervideo, Cyberlink, or Dscaler for my video decoder without much issue (I just personally like Dscaler's results better), but if I set my audio decoder/renderer to anything other than "System Default" I get very jerky video and typically out of sync audio (if not immediately, then eventually). If I switch my audio decoder/renderer back to system default, no more jerky video. So, it might not be your video decoder setting at all -- you may want to try a different audio decoder/renderer and see if you problem persists.

Of course, if Sub says poppykosh about any of the above, then I'd go with what he says, but that's been my real life experiences, and I can reproduce stuttering video every time I change the audio settings.

insulted that you can't remember it from previous signatures.

Yes, thats a very valid point. The audio stream is used as the clock during playback, so problems on the audio branch (audio decoder or audio renderer) can cause stuttering or broken video.

I have gone back to version 96.08 tonight from version 97.13 and it has solved my problem.

Cheers Jase.

I dont really understand how that would help. GB-PVR doesnt do the playback of video itself. It just lets Directshow do all this stuff.

HOLY COW! You mean something in my GBPVR experience is finally technically accurate? Haha I'm used to encountering and reporting all the weird, unresolveable stuff that doesn't make technical sense! Wink

hi

I am also having major issues with jerky playback (only of videos, not tv or tv record playback). whenever i play a video every 5-7 minutes the video freezes or stops for 4-5 seconds and then starts again.its really annoying.... i have read this thread so there is no point opening a new one but i really dont know what else to do. ive updated all my drivers (v.card, directx,WMP 9, Etc...) but nothing seems to work. i read here that GBPVR dosent actually play the video but rather directshow, does that mean that i should get the same probelms with WMP? what other programs use Directshow?

thx alot

Its probably the decoder using for this type of video. If its not happening with live tv or recording tv, then your MPEG2 decoder is probably fine. If its only occurring with avi files, then you've probably got a flakey divx decoder installed.

It could also be the audio decoder causing this. I've heard some users say that AC3Filter caused this sort of behaviour for them.

OK - I've had this problem and solved it. Nothing in this thread worked for me although I'm sure defragmenting is of use in the long run for the smooth operation of GBPVR.

It may not relate to everyone but I suspect that my solution could be of use to a few of you. I have disabled nwiz.exe and PDVDServ.exe from starting up. I'm not sure which causes the problem as I'm happy with how my system is running now so can't be bothered to do anymore troubleshooting. Suffice to say, it solves the problem of jumpy, jerky video as described in this thread.

I just wanted to add something I found on this topic. I had some video stuttering occasionally. I found that it was not actually the playback, but the recording that had the problem. Whenever I played back the part that stuttered it would stutter in the exact same spot.

The problem I had was related to a corrupt recording. It was not the recording that I was watching but another one on my system. If that file got "touched" by the system it would put explorer.exe at 100% as it tried to find the details of the corrupted file of several gigs. This would basically lock down the system for several minutes.

I found this by navigating through all my recordings and opening all the directories until I found one that would lock up explorer. Deleting this file then stopped explorer from locking up, and stopped my recordings from being recorded with a stutter.

Here is a thread that explains more about this.

My appologies - looked as though it had worked but then the problem re-occurred. I've stripped back all the Windows services and defragged but that hasn't solved the problem. At the moment I'm mystified as 1 movie and 1 TV programme recorded fine after following my previous advice and then the problem started again, getting progressively worse. The jumpy video happens in both live and playback mode. I've got 15GB HDD space left, an Athlon 2000 and 768MB RAM. Surely that's enough?
