actually it's just a file system cache driver that turns on write caching just like on hard drives..
unfortunately the writes aren't persistant...they get deleted at shutdown...
but you can save it to a file and reload that file upon restart..Smile
"File-Based Write Filter - Write Cache 10% of RAM" [search]
it's nice cuz it allows programs to reside on read only media and not know it...Big Grin

i think i'll end up going with a cdrom and a thumb drive, but will persue other means of loading gbpvr...[it's nice to be able to set and save settings with config.exe so they stay..]
the rest i can do with ram...
found a lot of nice new plugins for pe...avast antivirus, opera, java and mdac..flash 9 and ffdshow, purevideo looks too complicated,i'll probably only do cyberlink decoder in addition to dscaler and ati plugins....maybe intervideo..

plus found a way to have a bartpe boot image loaded from boot.ini menu Smile
so may be able to run .net 2.0 from hard drive after all...[much!! faster]
[it would act like just another cdrom, and still be able to access the writeable harddrive]

also seem to be having problems getting volume to work...not sure why...
what are the keystrokes for volume when playing timshift?

[don't have remote plugins built yet, next on list]
i tried local and master...nada..mixer works fine tho...

I think it should be right/left arrow.
I'm not always right

well, volumes working...Smile silly me ...was using wrong keystrokes...
[been so long since i used anything but remote Smile]

still having the overlay problem but i think it's something missing in directx...
the filters are working fine...keys too in playback..

Sub, is there any way to turn off transparency completely for osd?

also i noticed it uses the same renderer no matter what i select in config...
[overlay/vmr9/vmr7]
it says i don't have vmr9 compatibility, but that may be the card...[64 meg]

i doubt vmware can do vmr either so will have to setup a better test bed...
other than that, all working..! and i mean everything...most plugins too..
will let ya know how it goes with the video..Big Grin

If you use Overlay, then it is a fully opaque OSD.

It'll only mention lack of VMR9 compatibility if you've got <Renderer>VMR9</Renderer> in config.xml.

hmmm,it won't run at all from a network drive...bummer..

trying it *all* from cdrom now with that 'temp space on cd' plugin...so its dir will be writable..i don't forsee any problems..plus it keeps it all in one place and read only...tho the writes back to cd can be saved ad reloaded,so one could possibly be able to make changes to gbpvr config and save and reload them next time automaticaly...[if you have a place to store the temp file till then]

works from the cdrom drive....Big Grin
although it is slower a bit...and you can't change anything...
so i think i must go with a writable gbpvr dir somewhere...
on hd it runs as fast as ram drive almost...dunno why it's so fast this way..
will try ram drive as well,as the machines should have at least 512m anyways.

oh and also have osd working in vmr7 and vmr9 Big Grin
but no go on overlay...Sad
it's almost like they're drawing on the surface underneath the video, cuz the keys still work..even mouse..[if you can figure where to click! lol]

dxdiag shows all directdraw and direct3d working...says couple files missing but i can't find them on my reg. machine...

looks beautifull in vmr but i don't have an extra video card that's accelerated enough for vmr...am using Omega drivers for ati cards, and an older nvidia driver setup...[next on testing list]

i really really wanna be able to use overlay cuz many machines won't have optimized drivers or heavy duty hardware and overlay works on almost anything...the video is great on mine too..no overlay osd even on vmware so i'm doubting it's the drivers...
i'll scour the forums to see if i can figure anything out..

which video options in config.xml have to do with overlay mode?

There is no settings in config.xml that would affect this.

You could make sure OvTool.dll (or OvTool.ax - cant remember name) is registered. If this is not registered you'll get no OSD.

ahh...cool..that may help...wasn't in the re-register filters bat...
are there any other files registered during the install?
i got vmr7 working beautifully with osd on a radeon 7000....Smile
[no small feat] and about 5-10%cpu...so sounds accellerated..

vmr9 is a bit much for this 64 meg card tho...lol
but it plays smoothly except for an occasional microskip..
[it's not dx9 cert.]

anything i can learn about out of ordinary stuff happening in the install is usefull..[any regging of files, registry changes other than the obvious one]

tho so far it seems all to be working fine except for that...keeping my fingers crosssed...

still minor issues with video card drivers, radeon has quirks, but may be the card, still have to test nvidia really..and tv outs but i think that does work..

i may make a fakie lookin config.exe clone to set a few config options from within pebuilder...to set preferred decoder, renderers, remote, server addr.etc..

didn't work...but with vmr working nicely it may not be a huge deal..

also, don't need the log dir thing anymore...with my new trick, logs can be created on the cdrom drive itself, and i tested and it works fine that way...

[i also think i can make a fullblown winxp dvd if a lot of mem on board Big Grin]

the ease with which this was possible, is a tribute to your programming skills..and decision making....

uh,oh...looks like i got overlay osd working!!!!
too cool...and i built in the dscaler options i wanted too..
all with no hard drive at all!!!
one big fat dvd around 1 gig...
[i can make it smaller bigtime]

here's a thought, a self running windows with gbpvr AND a movie on it...lol
actually i should be able to run a full version of gbpvr, not just a client..Smile
[if you insert card drivers, and setup the gbpvr totally beforehand..]
should be easily possible to run full mode with harddrive or mem stick..
just need the drivers and the gbpvr setup..

wooo hoo....lol too cool..
Cool
how about i throw in ultravnc too? hehe done..

thanx for all the help...glad i didn't need that much...Big Grin
