It's a hole in the system that allowed him to get a gun, it wasn't something they missed.
Same thing as far as I'm concerned. Just showes how easy it is to get a gun.

that's what I meant. and the fact that people are coming there is because there are good doctors and facilities and knowledge. It's the availability of that to the general public the issue.

Sadly I won't be visiting anymore as your borders and ports of entry seem to be employing people who actively discourage tourism. I found it an unpleasant experience the last (in both meanings) time I visited.
I had similar problems lately, luckily the firm I work for issued an L1 visa for me (although I don't intend to actually live there), just to ease the border crossing and all the questions.

Violating our 2nd Amentment right to bear arms won't solve the problem. Gun control, checks, etc. won't solve the problem. Guns will always find their way into the hands of the criminals. I sure won't stand by and be a victim or if someone tries to harm someone else.

The real problem is American culture/society. It has gotten so bad over the past 20 years, and I'm only 35 and saying this! You won't solve any problem unless the culture changes for the better. I see the direction our culture has changed and is headed as wrong and dangerous.

Most people look at the right to bear arms as guns. Would anyone argue that we don't want people with nuclear weapons walking around? They are "arms" also. Where do you draw the line? I would like to draw the line at musket loaders, like what was being used at the time the constitution was written.

tipstir Wrote:USA is the best place to live, you'll be back! They all come back in the end! Other countries look nice but everywhere has some sort of hidden problems. In time maybe not in my timeline things will change here in the USA? Still there is no place like the USA.

I moved to Canada from Florida in 2003. I do not hate America but at this point could really care less If I ever saw it again. All through my youth I dreamed of travelling around the USA. When I was 28 I took a job that kept me on the road non stop. I have been to every state except a few and nearly every major city.

One of the depressing things about the USA is a terrible "sameness" that has crept up in the last 20 years or so. Every town seems to have a main drag with Home Depot, Wal Mart, Chilis, Target, Starbucks etc. The local flavor the individual states has largely been wiped out. Canada is only slightly better on this point but is offset by me not worrying that my girlfriend will be murdered on the street.

As far as universal health car goes, it is does not create the paradise that everyone imagines. We have been here for 4 years and my girlfriend still does not have a doctor. It turns out that Quebec may just be the worst place in North America to be a doctor. For this reason we have very few. People die here waiting for operations that even penniless illegal immigrants would receive quickly in the USA. Quebec also has the highest taxes (including a 20% sales tax:mad: ) in North America, largely due to subsidised health care.

Aside from this, we really love Canada. People here have been very welcoming to us. Canadiens seem to have a pride in their country that is missing in the US. Canadiens also seem to still be actively building their country and deciding together what they want Canada to be.

Do they still use lead in gas in the UK? That's the easy way to get the octane up. At the race track people used to soak a couple mothballs (naphthalene only) in their gas to increase the octane.

tipstir Wrote:At time they were switching over to unlead but I don't know if they did that switch or not. You can drive to any Sunco that has the white pump which is racing octane close is $3 to $4 depending on where you live in USA.

Looks like the phased out the 4 star Fuel in UK in 2000, here read up more about it at this site link: http://www.petrolprices.com/about-fuel.html I think the lead has been taken out also.. see below

UK Ordinary unleaded - 95 RON Super unleaded - 98 RON Leaded Four Star - 98 RON

Looks like 98 is still leaded. Anyway, not to digress too far, but boosting the octane doesn't make a low compression engine work any better. It's for high compression engines which for today's models only exist in a turbo or a supercharged car. Lower octane fuel will spontaneously ignite (without spark)in higher compression engines and that results in pinging. Increasing the octane allows the gas to compress more without igniting. It doesn't give more power except by letting the engine run with the correct spark timing.

Petrol (Gas) is currently around $6.8 for a US gallon in the UK, no lead in our fuel any more. Different grades of fuel available but the higher the RON the higher the price.

Loved my trips to US however sadly with the new restrictions being brought in with the US authorities having the right to read my emails and see my credit card transactions as a visitor to the US I won't be visiting any time soon. Although it would be a great time to visit with the low value of the dollar compared to the UK pound

I hadn't heard about the authorities reading email. I don't get it though, if I travel to another country and they want to see what I'm buying, go ahead and look. Pretty boring stuff. I don't think I would be sending sensitive emails whether I'm travelling or at home. Too many prying eyes.
