they seem to be purely about streaming...very little else seems to get much attention...updates are few and far between, and don't have much difference for major releases...but what it does it does well...but it could be so much more useful if they just fixed what's there already..

Have you tried the 0.8.6 releases ? I do not know if they fixed a lot of the timelines problems, as I have only used vlc for streaming, but that is the beauty of the mvpmvc-vlc solution. Since it is streaming as soon as you press the fwd or f-fwd keys on the remote, or by pressing the digits (1-9) it advances the stream by percentage without any delay.

nope...not fixed in latest 8.6 that i'm aware of...[unless there's some new option to set i didn't see] it's better but still no generated timelines..
[i should try the new ffmpeg -genpts or see if thy have an alternative, since it's using the same av libs]

but yea, streaming is the way...now we just need to 'integrate' that type of solution so it's easier to use...Big Grin

There would be little problem with emulation mode using GBPVR for the GUI and vlc to feed the video stream allowing the stream navigation modes and it would work ok for files but a lot of work would be needed to get pvr functions related to livetv to work. Sticking with mpeg2 is the best bet.

mvpmc users with using MythTV are trying to figure out how to integrate vlc with MythTV too but more to address HD file access.
