When you have the <UsePowerDVD8ForTS> it uses the Cyberlink Demux, and the default audio and video decoders that will connect to this demux. I assumed this would be the Cyberlink audio/video decoders, and this was certainly the case on my machine. On your machine it seems you have the Intervideo H264 decoder which is taking priority over the Cyberlink h264 video decoder.

The audio is already doing the correct thing, and is using the correct Cyberlink audio decoder.

For the video you might need to either uninstall the Intervideo H.264 decoder, or use something like the RadLight directshow filtermanager to decrease the filter merit. It must have a higher merit causing the intervideo decoder to be chosen.

I always leave the audio renderer on system default.

Quote:However for H.264 playback the choice is System Default and there is no other choice.

If I try to play the sample file from TV1 gbpvr just crashes with the normal Windows error messages.

Looking at config.xml I can see the following:

<SupportedH264Decoders>CyberLink H.264/AVC Decoder (PDVD7.x),CyberLink H.264/AVC Decoder (AzureWave),ffdshow Video Decoder,CoreAVC Video Decoder,ArcSoft Video Decoder</SupportedH264Decoders>
<PreferredH264VideoDecoder>System Default</PreferredH264VideoDecoder>

So this seems to suggest that it's trying to user Cyberlink H.264 (PDVD7) filter
As I mentioned in my earlier post with the patch, you'd need to add "CyberLink H.264/AVC Decoder (PDVD8)" to the <SupportedH264Decoders> setting in config.xml if you want it to be selectable.

If you have <UsePowerDVD8ForTS> set to true, then the decoder is chosen for you by the Cyberlink Demux when playing back files. Your H264 decoder selection is still used for live tv though.

I actually had removed Windvd7 but apparently the remnants are still there. Is there a way to manually remove the H.264 decoder? I looked around in the registry but just wasn't sure what to remove and what would cause gbpvr or Windows to choose it. Thanks

Update:

Added CyberLink H.264/AVC Decoder (PDVD8) to the <SupportedH264Decoders> part of config.xml. Then in the config application selected this codec for H.264 playback. Made sure the codec was being chosen by clicking the options against the codec and seeing the

Removed Intervideo H.264 using the Radlight Filter manager. Now gbpvr plays the video with the pixelated image I have described before and with audio. But still somewhat strangely PDVD8 plays the same video smoothly and with audio. So there is still some tweaking in gbpvr I need to do or gbpvr has a much higher overhead when playing H.264 files than PDVD8 does? That really doesn't make sense

Download the DirectShow Filter Manager from http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm, and select the decoder and hit the 'remove' button.

Thanks but had already removed it using the Radlight Filter Manager. It's not being used now by gbpvr but I can't get reasonable playback using gbpvr - at least not comparable to PDVD8

I tried the patch, and I now have worse playback, from live TV, and no sound on any channel. Compared to the patch Sub supplied a couple of days ago - is the clock-sync still enabled in the new patch?

Scratch that - it's not the older NativeUtilities dll. Sorry,

I've got things working better than ever on a reasonably fresh test system! Playback is great and live TV is as well.

There is just one small issue I am having - when I first go into live TV I get no audio, a channel change and it works fine. Is this something that anybody else who has PowerDVD8 has noticed?

Sub, it's almost there. I have the same problem as sbiddle - the first launch of a channel gets no sound, on LiveTV or the Guide, then changing to another channel fixes that. I still have no sound on TV3 no matter what I do, using the PowerDVD Audio Decoder (PDVDV8). I also note channel swapping to TV3 from TV2 or TV7 (i.e. either side of TV3) doesn't change the video, you get a screenshot of TV2 or 7 respectively.

Still - it's looking very good at this point!

Cheers,
Bill.
