Has anyone had this problem when loading the media Experience skin ?

I get a Microsoft .NET Framework error message involving an
"unhandled Exception" with "Object reference not set to an
instance of an object". This failure is a constant when I load
the Media Experience skin, but goes away with the default
blue skin.

Any ideas as I really like the Media Experience look ??

its probably a plugin you are using. it only supports: tv guide, recordings, search guide, my vids, my pics, my music, my programs, shutdown (v2.0+), and weather.

yeah, i've seen that same error message pop up a number of times using media experience. i can't seem to isolate when/why, or any steps to reproduce it 100% of the time...it seems like it happens most when no items (menu, or programs) are selected. i've been hesitant to post, since i cant seem to reproduce it reliably. but it does happen, and it seems to be independent of which plugin i'm in. i believe it to have happened in all of the following plugins: recordings, my videos, my pictures. these errors, like you noted, go away with the blue skin. kind of a bummer, because i really have taken a liking to the ME skin. in fact, i like it so much i just deal with the exceptions and restart gbpvr when they occur.

pov.

If you look in the GBPVR.exe.log file you should see an error message that describes what resource in what plug-in was trying to be loaded and could not be found. Once you have that it is usually pretty straight forward to edit the skin.xml file to fix the problem. If you don't know how to interpret the error messge if you post all the relevent lines here I'm sure someone can help you out.

ive never seen any of these problems, and ive been media experience for ages now, the only plugins i use are my vids, my pics, my music, my programs, shutdown, tv guide, recordings, search, fast find, livetv.

fastfind isnt skinnable enough so i never released the skin i made for it (well i only changed the background), but i find it useful.

Jeff, I appreciate the offer to resolve my error condition:

When selecting media experience, I immediately get the "Unhandled Exception" error message. When I looked in the GBPVR.exe.log
file I found two lines in the log labelled as "ERROR" They were:

921 ERROR [2] Unable to find node: /settings/SpecialElements/SpecialElement[@name="MenuType"]

156 ERROR [2] Unable to find named image: /settings/CompositeImages/CompositeImage[@name="CenteredSelectedButtonImage"]

Being new to GB-PVR, I don't know what to do to edit the skin.xml file to fix the problem. Aslo, there seem to be roughly
60 "skin.xml" files to in the GBPRV folder when I did a search.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Looks to me like you got the wrong main menu skin.xml...Perhaps from another skin, i would suggest complete deletion of media experience. and redownload...

davea0288 can you post the complete gbpvr.exe.log file. those two lines by themselves dont really point to much.
